I'm curious why there are so many titles available which are just scans of commercially translated manga? It's not scanlation to scan your copy of a Viz title, it's lazy.
It's one thing to put out fan translations (scanlations) of titles not commercially available (or volumes/chapters not yet available), but the scanned commercial stuff just feels like everyone is trying to pull the buck out of the pocket of the mangaka and the commercial translators. Especially when people upload it and claim it as a scanlation. It also feels like it's opening up a whole other can of nasty if one of those commercial companies like Viz or Dark Horse decides to kick this community a new one over it.
I'm just curious as to other people's opinion on this.
I agree. They are drawing a lot of negative attention to the service that effectively advertises their products.
I'm in favour of companies offering a small amount to skilled fansubbers and scanlators in order to use their work in books and disc, so long as they discontinue public access to any chapter/episode published outside of Japan.
This will mean groups will upload their work to their own or combined servers and regulate what is accessible rather than spreading out their work to a variety of sites.
This'd mean that Stoptazmo would cease having a download option and only be viewable from the site.
