I just don't see the manga needing Masataka, besides being the narrator or the call-in guy when someone is in trouble. In fact, I can see the manga without most of the White Feathers. It seems that they're there for the "Filling" of the manga.

But it's exactly because of all the side characters and their developement(and the story out of their point of view) that most people love the manga. If the story would have been focusing on Nagi only I probably would have stoped after chapter 20 or so.
wow....actually good discussion going on TT subforum! Havent had that in a good while....ahahahha.
You guys bring up good points though.....what is souichiro's motive? Possibly it's for his mom, but i believe it's for Maya. The reason being is because, Souichiro's mom said it herself, that he did change after meeting maya, and also if i remember correctly there was something along the lines of finding someone to fight for.....or something like that. So that imo would prelude to Maya....
and well...also now thinking about it....the ordeal with Souhaku....i think it's out of pure anger that he wants to kill Souhaku. Since he left his mom and has done stuff to her that has left her handicapped.
jwhiskey brings up a good point, with out the other characters this story would seem pretty boring. The fact that there are more character makes it better for those who don't like the main characters as much.
But you are also right, takes away from the main story sometimes, but overall I still think it's good.
This has turned out to be souichirou fighting for women -_-
you're right, he has changed significantly...from his arrogant self to still arrogant but caring guy.
And about the "pure anger"...I think souichirou is really mad at his father and blames him and all that, but he still wants the family together. He's only fifteen...what can I say...he's been bullied all the time when he was young, too, and if I lived a life like him and had a father like souhaku, I would still want the family to get together and be happy...
I think one of the main theme of TT is "family"...considering Nagi's, Takayanagi's, Natsume's, blablabla...
I like Masataka alot, because, unlike snotty brat that is Souichiro Nagi, he has worked hard to get to his current level, and he fights extremely well. We have yet to see any other powers from his side beside being able to go completely berserk. And unlike Souichiro he doesn't rely on his "bloodlimit", so to speak, to own someone.. He just relies on skill, technique and superior battle experience!
But he sure as hell aint no angle.. nasty pervert..
And as for the Souichiro fighting for himself discussion. no.. he doesnt.. no way.. He activates his dragon gate subconciosly everytime aya or maya gets threatened or gets in dire situations.. :O
Um...how did Nagi not train hard? Before he discovered all the powers he had he worked hard to become stronger and even when he did have powers he trained hard. What about the Souichiro vs Ishiyumi and Souichiro vs Mataza fights?
Btw, double posting is against the rules, you should just use the edit button.
^Souichirou's recent improvements have been due to his bloodline however. The eye transfer and the forced training really weren't personal improvements, they were improvements made by Souhaku. Masataka on the other hand, has had to train relatively on his own recently.
Before Nagi came to high school was another story.
^Exactly though, he was forced into those training sessions. Not that he knew that he could easily gain powers if he did that, and even when he was training it was not like he wanted the powers.
I don't get how him being forced into it and then not continuing to do the same type of training would be considered as him not working hard and getting stuff handed to him. The only thing I'd say about him is that he's a littlbe bit more mature than the way he was before.
Yeah Masataka does train hard, but Bob seems like he trains more and tries harder than Masata. :/
