Masataka is the true warrior, I think.
He was introduced to me first...And that's probably the reason why I like him the most in Air Gear.

Seems to me like he should be the main character, rather than Nagi ._.

Thats mainly the logic why people want Masataka to be the True Warrior since they secretly want him to be the main character. And people like Masataka for the same reason they like shounen main characters, because Masatak fits the typical shounen character to a T. But one thing you guys should remember though, this is not a shounen manga(its a seinen manga).

Nah, I don't hate Masataka anymore.
Now that the scanlation came out I saw that masataka is just as stupid as Bunchichi.
Try to keep somebody alive by almost killing him makes no sense and of corse Masataka had more guts than Bunchichi and went for it.
But I TOTALLY loved the fact that Masataka said that Mitsuomi didn't had to fight anymore.
That evrybody(Masataka inclued) was willing to fight for him and that he already done more than anybody would have done with such a body.
Meaning that Masataka agree with what his brother is doing and that he is ready to be the next head of the Takayanagi Family.
Apparently the only way to make Mitsuomi understand something is by beating the crap out of him, that's probably why Maya is fighting him all these years while being in love with him and she even "died" for his sake.

I guess it depends on how you first got into the seires. I think most people got into it from the Anime, where Masataka gave the introduction as Bob and Nagi rode on the cycle to Toudou. I would say that Bob and Nagi were the first to be introduced with the color pages before Masataka. But yeah, it is true that Masataka is basically the typical shounen hero. Unfortunately, when they are brought into a seinen manga, they are usually hurt or killed by the end. He has everything going for him right now: His father is presumably old and his brother is basically on his deathbed, so he'll probably inherit the whole foundation, he's strong, and most of the girls in school have a crush on him.

You do realize that you just answered your very own question of why Masataka was beating the crap out of Mitsuomi don't you? I don't think either Masataka or Bunshichi were being stupid. If anything, they were trying to knock some sense into Mitsuomi's muscle-bound skull. Both of them were trying to show Mitsuomi that it was better for him to fight against death rather than just lie down and accept it.

Mitsuomi simply couldn't see that there were people all around him ready to die for him and his cause, because he was too blinded by his own superiority complex and ambition. That's why I applauded when Masataka knocked him on his ass, he needed a long overdue wake up call.

Masataka being a "typical shounen hero" as you and dollarbill like to put it, has nothing to do with why I like him as a character. And I don't really think it has anything to do with why other people like him either. Speaking personally, I like him because he's modest, humble, respectful, and can kick ass with the best of them. His personality combination of an awkward high-school student/ruthless martial artists is a breath of fresh air, especially when compared to the cliche wannabe thug turns hero that is Souichiro (can we say Yusuke Urameshi anyone?).
