Masataka is strong, no doubt, but that's how he's always been since the beginning of the story. Yeah, he's got the techniques, but sometimes technique just don't work cause all they are are techniques. If he got choked up when seeing Aya fight the Fu-chien Kyonshi, then how is he going to hold up against Nagi. yeah, he pwned the zombie with some assistance from Tawara, but it seems to be the same thing over and over. With Nagi, Kagurazaka, Madoka, and Fu Chien, he messes up somehow in one point, then comes back overpowering them.
The tournament is about to start and he doesn't look like he's improved from the beginning of the manga. Nagi, Aya, even Bob have shown improvement.

I doubt that. remember from times Dougen was training Mitsoumi to become the Ultimate Warrior. Masataka has not hat the level of training that Mitsoumi has had.
Furthermore Nagi Souichiro is a RED FEATHER. it is his inborn ability to manipulate the dragon gates. and also his training was boosted by the heads of the other families even Dougen. Masataka is White Feather he can't open dragon gates. however i still think that he can improve.

I never said Masataka couldn't improve, in fact i was implying the opposite. I think he has the potential to become stronger than his brother but the thing he lacks is the amount of training he has had compared to Mitsoumi, but that can change. I guess time will tell.

I think by the end masataka could be one of the more powerful charcters in the story, they keep showing him as sometimes weeker than the others but then they seem to hint that he has hidden potential. I think some people were right when saying that maybe his biggest hindrance is an inferiority complex because of his brother. Near the end of the series i think Masataka will transform himself to become one of the most powerful characters in the manga. (at least i certainly hope so cause i'm not that fond of nagi)

Masataka's true strength does not come from brute force or sheer power, unlike Mitsuomi and Souichiro. Remember that analogy Aya made about everyone being like a rushing rapid river and how Masataka was more like the calm water surface that could absorb even the fiercess water-fall? That's kind of the reason why he doesn't need a killer instinct to become strong. He's taking an entirely different path from his older brother... and that's why I think he'll be able to catch up one day.

I think Masataka will change later on, but he might end up getting killed. Since everything is being a repeat of the past, Masataka could be killed protecting Aya when Souchiro looses controle of the dragon gates. The ending of the last tourney Shin lost controle and basically killed that girl(gf); Souchiro might do the same to Aya (or Maya) and Masataka will intervene with his full potential.

Or it could just be something crazy with masataka going all out on souchiro so that aya notices him :P Or

(i hope i got the names right, havn't read TenTen in a while)

Souichirou cant lose control over the dragon gates because he has magarabai blood. It's not like kagiroi where it was the Eye that belonged to makhiko.

Souichirou will most likely loose control when his father tries to take over his body. He still doesn't remember what happened at his father's place.

Masatake will the be the one ending up being the savior to beat Nagi I think. The special power doesnt amount for anything agiainst someone as good as Masataka. I mean Bunshinchi beat the hell out of Aya and Maya's brother and hes jsut a brawler. They'res been talk about the "Natural born fighter" Masataka's father thougt it was Mitsuomi. But I think its Masataka. He is a natural born fighter only right behing his brother and Aya, and I think he'll end up beating his brother.

who said it has to be a Takayanagi to be the saviour. Yeah, Masataka is strong, but I don't see him as a natural born fighter like Soichirou and Bob. I believe the only reason he's as good as he is is because of his family. If he wasn't a Takayanagi, do you really think that he would be as strong as he is now? If Mitsuomi didn't take over their father's company and kick them to the curb, do you think Masataka would have the determination to beat Mitsuomi? I just don't see it.

Remember though, Masataka's father doesnt want him to have anything to do with Mitsuomi at all or with any of his dealings. Mr. Takayanagi never gave Masataka the things he gave Mistuomi and yet he is still as good as he is.
