Default Why do I need to update?

This may sound strange, but recently when I have visited this site the computer insists that I put in the Office CDs because a file is missing. This started when I was downloading the latest Eyeshield 21, but now it happens regardless of who I download.
What files am I missing? My computer insists that what I have is the latest version, but this message keeps appearing.
    Help!
Make time every day to have a bit of fun.

    Huh? What was... OH SHIT!
I got it! I got it!
    Nice throw Coolpuprocks.

Sounds to me like a virus or piece of spyware, but you never know. Run scans for both (goolge adaware or spybot if you don't have spyware scanners, or AVG Free if you need anti-virus).

If nothing turns up in the scans... well, then I guess we will have to investigate the install. As I am rather paranoid about it, I would disconnect the computer from the internet (do what you have to, pull the cords out or shut the modem off, what ever the case may be), and then go to Start->Control Pannel->Add/Remove Programs, and then find Office on the list of programs. Once you do that, click on the button it gives you. You are looking for a repair option, not an uninstall though, so if it asks you to confirm an uninstall (a yes or no box will pop up) then say no and back up. I think office has a repair install option, but I am not sure.

If there is no repair install option, then (with the computer still diconnected) put the office disk in and see if you can get some repair options off the autostart of the office disk.

One other thing I can think of (and I think you should actually try this first) is to run microsoft update, as someone may be trying to exploit an office security hole. To do this, go to start->Programs->Windows Update. Once in windows update, if you keep your eyes on the right side of the screen, you will see a link pop up that says "Upgrade to Microsoft Update". Click this, and you will be taken to a new update server that will check for both windows updates, and updates for any other Microsoft products you have installed (like Office ). Once there, if there are updates, install them and see if that takes care of your problem.

I just have to say this, as security is no joke: If you run multiple windows products, like windows and Office, you should start to use Microsoft Update.
There, a friend of mine can get off my ass now.
    Vol~

    thanks to Silverwmoon!
