    Default directx problem

when i install the new star wars:empire at war demo, they ask to update my directx. i do. but when i try to install dirctx, i get the error message. "the software you are installing has not passed windows logo testing to verify its comptibility with windows XP" can someone help?

I'd say the hell with that, and just run windows update (start, all programs, windows update).

Go to custom update, and directX updates should be under Software,Optional updates. Click the add buton, and it will be put on your list of downloads. I think that the latest version is DirectX 9.0c.

It should download, install, and ask you to restart. After that, install your game, and if it gives you shit, tell it to ignore and continue anyway, as you have the latest version.

Worst case senerio, you can get it here...

it should give you an option to install anyways.. just pick that option and continue where you left off

hellcreator> yes i try to ignore it. but all it gives me is a shit "ok" option.
volvogga> i did do both. theres nth down there related to directx. and the directx i dled has the same problem.
i ran dxdiag and it says theres no problem and my version is 9.0c. but that game wont run.
btw i recently installed SP2 but it gave me problems with java links in IE among other things. so uninstalled it through the add/remove programs in control panel. could this be somehow related?

Ok. You got me a bit curious, so I looked up the game title and DirectX... and ran into a total shitstorm. So, after reading for a little while, its once agian time for Volvogga to go on a rant. Ok, here we go.

*Warning: Coarse langage and suggestive themes to follow*

Seems that A LOT of users run into this exact problem, even though they do indeed have DirectX 9.0c installed on there systems. Lucasarts official answer seems to be along the lines of 'if you download and install DirectX from Microsoft, then it should work, and if it doesn't then we are just going to sit here with our thumbs up our asses'. TOTAL UN-FUCKING-ACCEPTABLE!!!

I hope that game is awsome, because if I was installing it and I saw this, I would have dumped it immediatly. Fuck em. Why should I go and fuck with my perfectly working system for a damn game? You SHOULD NOT have to downgrade your system for a fucking game. Especially with all the security issues that arise with going back to SP1. Someone, somewhere fucked up, and none over there seems to give a shit. A sodomy of demonic perportions is in order somewhere.

Well, tech supports latest answer over there at the site is to install the latest version of DirectX, not 9.0c, but the December release. Hrmmm... gee. Does that show up in Windows Update? I think not. So now I have to go hunting for what is essentaly a development build of a piece of my operating system? (Hrmm, I think you can all scratch one more reason to not try Linux off your lists, as that seems to be the same now.) Thats bullshit! Pure and unrefined!

I realize it is just a demo, but I don't think that really matters. A demo is supposed to get people to buy the game, not go and piss on the rack the day Best Buy releases it!

Maybe its not the programmers fault and I'm being to hard on them. Could be that marketing made them release it when they wern't ready yet. OK, fine. Then marketing needs to be raped. Whatever. Doesn't matter that much. I know that I am in the minority on this, but I also know that as a member of the minority, I AM NOT ALONE IN MY THINKING. Lucasarts lost some sales with shit like this (there seems to be a lot of lockups with the game as well).

    Poor showing: Fail on principal!

    *END OF RANT*

In actual relation to your problem take a look at these two.
