Default alcohol 120% getting no disk error

Hi people, I'm trying to burn a dvd from an image file but I'm having problem using alcohol 120%.

Firstly, the equipments I using are:
    - the lastest version of alcohol
    - external dvd burner (liteon 16X DVD+-R /RW Drive)
    - USB 2.0 to ide cable.

Now I think my equipments are alright since I can burn with Nero and play movie files. But with alcohol, there's 2 problems:

    1) It detects that I have a dvd burner but it keeps saying there's no disk in it. To make sure its not the disk with the problem, I tried reading it with Nero and explorer, which has no problem.

    2) When Alcohol 120% asks me what speed I want to burn in, Devive detector pops up and said that I had removed the dvd burner from the USB. I click OK and sure enough, my dvd burner was no longer present, eg in windows explorer.

    Any help would be appreciated.

I found this article on USB 2.0 to IDE adapters and it seems dvd burners don't really like these cables. may i suggest that you try and run the burner internal to your computer (if its a desktop). If it works when its inside the computer then you can safely assume that the USB 2.0 to ide adapter is the culprit.

I think that Hellcreator is right in that that cable is more or less screwing you, but one thing you may try is to change the control device in Alcohol.

Go to options and it should be in the general options page. The drop down menu contains three choices. The default and top choice looks like it uses drivers by Alcohol to burn your disks with, the second the Windows 2000/XP style of drivers, and the third the standard WinASPI. You may not get the third option if you never installed and ASPI Layer though.

I'd try the second option once, as explorer can read your disks (maybe the third, but I never tried WinASPI for burning anything). Doubt it will work, but its worth a shot.

Tried changing the drivers though the alcohol 120%option menu but still getting the same weird crap. Bummer, just when I thought I got my external dvd burner working, this happens. I guess I'll download daemon tools and see if that will work. Stupid Nero won't let me burn from a .mds image file. Thanks for help anyway.

It would probably be faster (and easier on your registry) to forget deamon tools (although it is supposed to be great) and look into converting the File into one that Nero can burn. There is almost always a converter. I just got one last month to convert .ngr to .iso for when I want to transfer a non-burn image over a network or something.

Looked into really quick, and I ran across the following thread. Seems IMAGEBUSTER is the application for you. Check it out. Probably a faster download as well.

well.. did you try a burn at 2x or less? i was re reading the article and it was saying they had success at 2x. .try that out, i have a feeling that you will encounter the same problems burning with nero.

I converted the .mdf file into a .iso file using ISOBUSTER. I was then sucessful in burning this image onto a blank dvd using Nero. The result after that? The stupid dvd won't play. Sigh. Oh well, I tried.

One thing that's bothering me though are these 2 other files that came with the .mdf. They are .mds and this weird one called .I01 . When I converted the .mdf into an .iso and burnt the image, I just ignore these 2 files. Was that the correct choice?

    Thanks in advance

Ahh shit. Sorry, I missed this.

If I remember right, you want the .mds to be the one converted, as it is the file that tells the burning software where it should place the data on the disk. .mds and the other one you converted are equivelent to .cue and .bin, in a sense, so you should just open the .mds file in ISOBUSTER, and convert that one to a .tao/.iso (they are the same, I think). It should work if you do that.

Otherwise, I just read that COUGH*dvd*COUGH*decrypt*HAAAAAAACKKKK!!!*er*GASP* (... urg... sinuses ) can burn .mds files to disk.
