Default playing DVD files on your computer

I borrowed End of Evangelion and I have to return it. I tried dragging all the files to a folder on my hard drive. I played a chapter, it played but had blocks of colors on the screen. Any sugestions?

You know how you can pop in a CD and RIP it to your hard drive? Well you have to do the same thing, but with the DVD. This means that you have to rip the Video, audio, and subtitle tracks off the dvd, then reencode them and wrap them in a container file to put on your hard disk.

The other thing you can do is burn a copy of the disk. Or, you can burn the disk to your hard drive, which is called making a disk image. From there, you can use programs that will allow you to mount the image as if you had just put the disk into a DVD drive that doesn't exist.

Either way, this stuff is normaly done by your burning program (Nero, Alcohol 120%. etc.).

Never actually did any of this myself, I always buy the DVDs I really want. I have re-encoded a few files that I had got from friends and burned them to DVD before, though. If you told me what burning program you were using, I may be able to help further.
