Thread: Which processor where?

Jyuu seems to have disapeared, so I'll repost the question here.

I have two PCs, my gaming rig and my media PC.
The gaming rig is used for playing games (obviously) and just general activity, my media PC is used for watching video on my TV (obviously) and for ripping DVDs and encoding videos.
I have two processors a quad core Q6600 and a dual core E8400.
Only the gaming rig will be overclocked.

Am I right in thinking that I would be better off with the E8400 in my gaming rig and the Q6600 in the media PC?

Yep, two faster cores are better than 4 slower cores for gaming. You don't even need the entire 6mb of cache for gaming (I got a dual core e5200 oc'd from 2.5 to 3.3 without increasing the voltage). The quad will be better for encoding/ripping, esp. for newer programs that utilize more cores.
