Thread: Microsoft Works installation prob.

I'm trying to install Microsoft Works in my Laptop and everything seems to be going fine, until when the installer tries to copy files from the disk, halfway through the process it will say:

Error 1305.Error reading from file:
E:\MSWorks\Common\MSShared\InfoRet\msitss.dll. Verify that
the file exist and that you can access it.

(Retry) (Cancel)


The installing process will stop if I go cancel, and if I retry the same option appears.

Now I haven't encountered this problem before, and I have used this disk to other computers before and this is probably my 3rd time installing this program in my laptop. Prior to this one, no defects have appreared.

In addition, the file actually exists and i could access it. And it still won't continue

Any know what's the problem?

Could it be your laptop's CD drive is getting old or dirty? This is pretty thorough info about that error message:

Another solution I could add is that you can try copying the whole CD to a hard drive or burn the files to a new CD. MS Works will probably install without complaints even if it's not an official MS disc.

By the way, rather than MS Works, how about trying OpenOffice.org? I haven't used MS Works in ages, but the feature set of OpenOffice.org is probably greater (integration of components may not be as slick though). Lately my only contact with MS Works has been trying (and sometimes failing) to uninstall it from a couple of Dell machines that included it as a demo--really annoying!
