Thread: hard drive problem and something else

So...

Problem one: my friend wants to watch gundam 00 'cause he heard (from me) that the first ep just sucked and the series built up a lot more after that. I (vista) burn a couple dvds for him with the episodes on there, and give them to him. He (xp) hits me up the next day and says that they don't work as both are being read as blank.

Problem two: I brought my external hard drive over to my (different) friend's house today because (five months ago) i asked him to download Sex and the City for me. So, we plug it into his computer and he burns everything onto it. Later, we're trying to install L4D on my laptop (which DEFINITELY can't run it... it was hilarious watching my laptop sputter and shit itself trying, though) and this required copying 900mb of data onto my external, which didn't work. Why? Because my damn laptop suddenly acknowledges its presence, but doesn't bring it up in my "computer" menu meaning I couldn't access it. We tried plugging it into another vista laptop, nothing. tried plugging it back into his xp desktop, nothing. No idea what to do.

^problem1: there's too many posibility. try it back on your vista. if it can read, try using a different dvd on the xp.

problem2: since the external harddisk could not be read anywhere there are some posibilities:
- your externl hd drive is broken (not the harddisk, just the drive) the only thing to do is take out the harddisk and put it in another external hd casing (using the new drive)...
- you get a virus from your friend comp (you're screwed )
- if your external hd is one of those ext hd that are come in one set (as in the one that you can't take out the hd) i suggest you go to a specialist to know the problem

i hope this will help. and i also hope that the second problem only recuired the 1st solution, the 2nd and the 3rd usually don't have a good ending to it...

No idea what I'd be doing at all there. I'm in the computer management thing now and my G drive (the external) isn't coming up in there. I have Disk 0 (my C drive and a backup partition that came with my laptop when I git it) and Disk 1 reading "unknown" and "not initialized".

I tried popping a different DVD I burned before and it showed up no problem for me.

And I'm not sure if my enclosure is messed up or not... I plug it in and turn it on, and while nothing comes up, if I go to the Safely Remove Hardware thing, then it says I can "safely remove USB mass storage device".

This hard drive WAS one of thsoe that came as its own thing. I had to break the shit in half to get the IDE drive itself out and put it in this enclosure.
