I haven't really had any issues with Vista. I won't be adding a Beta program to my laptop.

Does seems like vista, but surprizingly enough, it does run alot smoother on less potent computers.

    I got a acer notebook, doesn't even have 1gb of ram, 512mb

Vista (that came with it) lagged to open menu, everything was slow.

With W7 and aero disabled (i've disabled on normal vista too) but the results were alot better, start menu open right away, firefox and opera takes 3-4 seconds to open, and you can somewhat multi task

by no means its super fast, but it just uppped the notebook a notch on the usuability scale, its more or less how it should be, for that computer

with more memory and better processor, I can see it being alot faster then vista is currently.

Way to compare a freshly installed blank OS without all the features in with one that came with loads of crapware that slows down any machine.

Mind you, I removed all acer crap, all start up items, optimized, the cache, virtual memory, took off aero, even got readyboost.
So no, I'm not comparing a blank os, with a bloated one.
With 512 mem, and 1.6ghz core, wasn't good enough to smoothly run vista.

Even at barebones, Firefox took a good 5seconds to open.
With Windows7 Takes good 3 seconds, but still is near 50% performace gain right there.

I'm not saying Vista is crap, I'm saying with the CRAP Hardware I have, Windows 7 behaves better..

    That doesn't make it better.
Left over registry entries, and prefetch data still exists and may slow your computer.
And as I said, Windows 7 doesn't have all the features yet.
Also, about the 5 seconds vs 3 seconds, that doesn't mean it is a 50% performance gain. That's not how you benchmark computer performance. It just means it is 2 seconds faster, nothing else.

Don't we benchmark, for what the current use?
Benchmark playing crysis? COD? or trying to run 3dmark? Isn't that all the same?

I gained 2 seconds on what I use most there.. so its a improvement.
Also the prefetch data its on the thumbdrive, taken care by the ready boost and superfetch, not occuping the virtual memory on the hard drive, so thats is nota issue on speed.

Lingering registry settings... if that is of any "big"impact, I'd say tops 0.1seconds

Also just like your sig, after a while and a couple pages open at the sametime, the program can leak, or just hog the memory.

W7 manages that a little better for now atleast, or for what showed to me.

But its no miracle, opening 10 instances of firefox, with 10pages each, just make it unusable.
just that comparing with normal use of 1-2 instances of firefox, with 5-7 pages each open, w7 is dealing more gracefully, not hanging up for a minute everytime I try to open/close or alt tab to msn

I don't want anyone switching or I'm not saying that windows 7 is the best os there is! Neither that vista is a piece of crap, or broken..
I'm just stating the GOOD points, if you want I can go over the thousands other little things that make it a bad os if you want that. or how its in beta, nothing that I use works, or how is fucked up, its in beta ffs its broken piece of ass, and probably going to be broken for a quite while.
