Thread: Laptop dilemma

I'm currently in a dilemma right now. I torn choosing between a Acer Laptop & a Macbook. I currently on a tight budget right now so i have to make the right choice.

1 Is a Acer Aspire with a 160 GB HD, with Intel Duo Core Processor's that cost around $1058(Running either Linux or XP) to $1108(Running under Vista).

2 Is a Macbook with a 160 GB HD, with Intel GMA X3100 processor that cost about $1844(Running OS 10.5).

Furthermore my local bank has agree to grant me a loan in exchange for 5.5% interest to pay back for 30 months.

So i have choose between performance or a Bargain deal. Which one should i choose, for good & financial reasons?

Furthermore, i want it also be able to run emulator's, free software, very good internet connection & how long will 'll be using it.

Please answer this question immediately?

Macs are pointless, don't buy one.
Acers are poorly made and loaded with crap, don't buy one.

Buy a desktop...

Laptops are universally overpriced, poorly built piles of junk that are worth more as paperweights then as computers. They usually spend more time being sent in for repairs then being used for work and play.

And dont even get me started on Mac's.

For 2000 dollars or even 1000 dollars you could buy or build a desktop that will last years.

Unless the person requires the mobility a notebook offers.
Good notebook + knowledgeable person = no need to repair for several years.

Heck, my very own sister who knows little about computers has had an average-quality Acer for 3.5 years and it has never had to be sent in for any repairs nor did I have to do anything to it myself (except format + reinstall Windows once). The notebook is still fully functional and still holds a respectable 2.5 hours of battery life despite being quite old.

You must be an absolute retard or totally unlucky if you cannot take care of a laptop or anything that contains moderately fragile electrical components for that matter.

Agreed. I have a Toshiba at home running a Pentium I 166, and it's still working fine now. The only problem is the battery (which is fair enough, it's been around for more than 10 years now) - it has to stay plugged into the outlet.

It's more of how you use the laptop and your needs. Light gaming and academic work can be handled easily. You just need to take care of it.

On the topic, consider HP laptops as well.
I tried customizing the dv6700t, with a T9300, 3GB RAM, Vista Home Premium, an 8400M GS, Bluetooth, 160GB HDD, and a 12-cell battery for $1113. Online (if you're in the US).

You won't be running extreme games on it, but if you're not hardcore, it does its job really well.

I'd say Levono..

but in the end does come from preferences.. I would get after Alienware, a Levono then sony then dell and only then acer...
