cant read cds
well thats the problem, it doesn't read any blank cd at all, i though it might be the drive but it opens well with original cds w/ programs, well of course the blank cd are all original XD, well even though its like this it does have a nice side effect, it doesnt open any fake cd including blank or the one wit program, but the problem is i c ant burn music and stuff XD, anyone know how to fix it?
Go to device manager, go to the.... umm... IDE ATA controllers, expand it, go to Secondary, check it's properties and make sure it's in DMA mode, not PIO.
Also, make sure you're using good media... don't get something really really cheap. CD's are pretty forgiving lately, but I'd still use some verbatums or sonys... borrow one or two from a friend (or pay him a dollar XD ) and try them. If they don't work, then you have problems.
Other than that, all you can do is clean the drive. If not, then you probably have a drive that's laser is going, or it's fallen out of alignment. If that's the case you might as well replace the drive. Time vs Money thing. If you really want to try and repair it, you can try following my guide... but I warn you it's a real pain in the ass to re-align a laser. ><
