    Default Missing Hard disk space?

I noticed that when I view the properties of C: It shows me that I have used about 51.5 Gb of harddisk space. But when I click on C, choose all the folders in that directory(ctrl+a) It only shows me up to 12.4 Gb in all of them. Do anyone knows where the remaining 39.1 Gb is? Coz thats like half of my hard disk missing.

Did you check Hidden Files and Folders?

Well, I did click under folder options the "show hidden files and folders" before doing ctrl+A, so it should be there. Unless you're talking about some other hidden files that is can't be viewed that way that I don't know about.(I'm just a beginner when it comes to computer maintenance.)

errrm... I... don't believe that windows will count the space used in the sub directories past the top level if used ctrl+a. You have to ctrl+a and then right click to get the properties of eeeeeeverything.

You should see everything being added up past that in the properties.

    I think... >_>

Actually, I did right click and then Properties, since I didn't know you can view their size just be pressing ctrl+A. So to say it step by step:
1)I checked "show hidden files and folders" under folder options.
    2) Right click C: then properties. Showed me I have 51.5 Gb space used.
    3) Went into C, highlighted all files and folders(ctrl+a), then right-clicked and chose Properties. Showed me 12.4 Gb "size on disk"

System restore don't show up in the properties

Go to Disk Cleanup >> More Options and cleanup the System Restore.

That should take care of it

Just done that, thanks. However it didn't restored all those missing space. After the disk cleanup thing, I now have 46.7 used space, so the cleanup thing only freed about 10 gig of space, the other 30-ish gig is still missing. I noticed that on the "More options" tab that there are also some other options there such as "windows components" and "installed programs". Should I clean up those too? although I have a feeling that I shouldn't.

    No you shouldn't.

Can we get a screen shot?

Maybe find a program called folder size by routebetasoftware too... that could help somewhat. I don't believe it cares what you do have hidden and don't, and will give you a real estimate.

*I can't find the site right now... PM me if you can't find it and I'll try to upload it somewhere.*

    EDIT:
    nvm.

Th program folder size didn't help much either. It showed a different size than the properties in c: and properties of folders of c:
here are some screenshotshope the links work, it's my first time uploading(^_^))

    Properties of C:

    Properties of folders of C:

    Folder size program:

I thought about ignoring the other two and sticking to folder size's estimate, but the difference is just too big to ignore.

Go into My Computer, right click on C: drive. Go to properties and click on the "Tools" tab. Press "Check Now" for disk scan.

Now, if after the scan still shows the wrong properties... all I can say is, ignore.. I don't think you will have any problems..

If you worried, download 30gigs of stuff! p0rn will do... see if you can put more then "26gigs" and you should.. if you can, delete it and keep using, and don't stress over it
