    Default MKVs to AVIs.

    I searchedbut couldn't find a satisfying answer.
What I need is a step by step guide for extracting a video stream from an MKV file and converting it to an AVI file. I don't particularly need sound or subtitles, only video (I'll be creating GIFs), so its ok if they are not encoded into the AVI.

    Uhh... mkvtoolnix

Get that, figgure out what the streams are using the tools in it. Get the gui for MKVextract. Extract the video stream.

Uhh... doing this really fast before bed, soooo.... I believe that you can then add that to a new project in virtualdubmod, switch to full process mode for video, select xvid codec, and save in an avi container.

Past that, open the avi in vdubmod and use the flags and export to png so that you can save a few hundred frames or whatever.

See if you can't work with that. If it ain't going to fly for you, just head over to videohelp.com.

    Death is me. zzzzzzzzzzzzz...

    thanks to Silverwmoon!
