    Default wireless internet

okay recently i got wireless internet (note to you all dont get it it sucks) wireless as in i have a modem i connected it to a wireless router and i connect to the net like that. i did put a password on my connection but for some fucking strange reason my internet gets capped to some slow ass speed really early. like i have a 12gig quota then i get capped. it's been 10 days since it refreshed and its not like i download tons upon tons of manga or porn. so why is this happening so early? is there a way to find out if anyone else is using my connection without me knowing? its so fucking frustrating.

    Needed:
    Your OS.
    You processor.
    Memory.
    Router.
    ISP.
Programs you are running(bittorent, usnext, irc, direct download).
    Network adapter.
And a clearer idea of what you are talking about.
    Thank you.

    DAMN YOU'S CPR!!!!!!!!

So yeah, your router should tell you who all is connected to it. Should be somewhere in there (need to know the make and model to tell you how... as I have to download the manual... which you could of course do yourself anyway). Furthermore, if your worried, change the password.

Connect direct to the modem like you were doing and see if it still happens. If not, then it's probably your router, and not the ISP capping you.

Past that, call your ISP and say "WHAT THE FUCK!?"

Umm... well the D-link website is giving me serious shit, and I can't seem to get the manual, soooooo I can't tell you how to check if the router has more than one person on it. I know you have to log into the router, and then there should be something in or around the DHCP section about how many computers to allow to connect, and who is connected right now.

Hopefully you have the manual handy somewhere, maybe on a disk you got with the router. You'll have to look that up yourself. Sorry.

And no, your router can't cap you (well, some might be able to, but it would be a user setting), but it can be giving you shitty performance. But remember, at top performance, we're talking 54mbs as oppose to a standard 100TX network cat5e connection of 100mbs. It's fine most of the time, but if the performance degrades due to interference or anything, you could start to notice it.

Again, if your still worried about your security, then change the password. Better yet, if you can, change from WEP security to WPA. WEP isn't very hard to break (from what I understand... *cough*).

Oh, and btw... what Jakko was getting at toward the end of his post is that if your using BitTorrent or some special download programs, you probably have to forward the ports or turn port triggering on. See the BitTorrent/IRC stickies for info about that.

You must set up a encryption on your wireless.
BUT, Lemme tell you this, the more you encrypt the slower it gets..

So you will never archieve top speed of you wireless using a encryption.

I set up a basic on my routers,

No SSID Broadcast And WEB 64Bits
Its basicaly a 10 hex digits passwords
    A to F, 1 to 0

You need to login into the router: (http://192.168.0.1)
    Go to WIRELESS
Now you need to change the following:
SSID: Put a name for your wireless, MyNet, UltraSuperWireless, Something, something unique easily remembered... CAPS MATTER

Channel... 6 should be the default, and you should have no problems with it.. unless you have some wireless telephone and its screwing up your interenet..

Mode Setting: Mix Mode, See I don't know what wireless card you run, so leaving this setting ensure that ANY wireless card will work, but at a price, SPEED..

    Security: WEP
    Authentication : OPEN KEY
    WEP Encription: 64Bit
    Type: HEX
    KEY1: <ANYTHING from A to F, 1 TO 0... like: A4F50DE32A .. its 10 characters>

    Hit apply!

That should take care of your encryption.

On your wireless computer you have to configure manualy the network
Inputing the SSID, and the WEP Encryption.

So the ONLY way to connect to your wireless is not only knowing the WEP Password, but the SSID name..

Before closing up things, for limeware, you must configure some NAT RULES
    GO HERE
    http://www.portforward.com/english/r...4/Limewire.htm
They explain step by step how to properly configure your router..

Thats also explain the poor speeds (a bad configured router that is)
