It's a issue with firefox seeing a protocol it has no idea how to handle, so it just says 'oh screw it'.

However, firefox should record the protocol into it's database. Furthermore, you should have something installed on your computer that will handle the protocol. I don't use itunes or it's store, but I assume that iTunes itself would handle this protocol, and thus, should have registered it with windows. The trick then is to make firefox export the itms protocol to windows, and let it open iTunes, which will happily take your money, err, handle it.

    Instructions for changing Firefox settings:

    1. Enter "about:config" in the address bar, which will open the advance configuration options of Firefox.

    2. In the text field labeled "Filter" enter 'itms'

    3. Look for items with the Preference Name that start with 'network.protocol-handler'

    4. If the Preference Name is network.protocol-handler.external.itmss or network.protocol-handler.external.itms then the Value column needs to contain "true". Double-click on the word "false", to change it to "true".

    5. If the Preference Name is network.protocol-handler.warn-external.itmss or network.protocol-handler.warn-external.itms then the Value column needs to contain "false". Double-click on the word "true", to change it to "false".

    6. Enter this URL into Firefox's address bar: itmss://deimos.apple.com/ This will likely bring up a dialog box in Firefox which basically asks if you are sure you want to use an application different from Firefox to open this URL. Check the "Remember...." box and then click "Okay".

    That should do it.
BE VERY CAREFUL IN about:config AND ONLY CHANGE THAT ONE (or two) SETTINGS UNLESS YOU KNOW EXACTLY WHAT YOU ARE DOING!

Thanks a lot. Quite annoying not being able to launch certain things like iTunes or steam demos.

EDIT: Does not seem to work. I set the value to false no good. Then I set it to true still no good. Any ideas?

    3. Have you restarted firefox?
    4. What's it doing? Same error?
    5. What application is supposed to handle that link?

    network.protocol-handler.external.itmss
    network.protocol-handler.external.itms

Past that... not sure. You might see if it works in IE. If so, then there isn't a windows protocol problem. If it doesn't work, then iTunes did not properly set the link protocol to route to iTunes. There are ways to manually over ride that.

If that doesn't work in IE, then google itms not opening iTunes or something like that. You'll probably just get a bunch of people saying re-install, but worth a shot.
