    Default .roff?

Hmmm, I downloaded a video that was in a format called ".roff ." All I can find out is that roff was an old old old old old text formatting program used by Unix(the 1st used by unix, in fact). This, of course, should not in any way be related to video's....

...Anyway, it will play on media player classic, but I can't find out anything about this format and, more specifically, a program that will convert it to a more standard type. Does anyone have any info on this? I can upload the file as well, if need be...

are you sure it is in this so called roff format, or if the video's name is ended with ".roff" while it uses a different format ?? => i don't have media player classic ATM (nor windows for that matter), but maybe you should search in the menus for information about the video and its format

edit : if you find nothing, upload the video and i'll look at it tomorrow if no one had a solution by then

Edit: Oh well, renaming it .rmvb fixes it, but I am still curious.

Shouldn't you be able to go to file>properties> and then click the advanced tab so it tells you the stream types (IE Xvid, mp3, and SSA or something like that in a list)?

    EDIT:
nvm... I see it in your screenshot.
It's real media... you could probably rename it to .rmvb and it will play just fine.

isn't real video extension .rm ? (not that it matters much though )

@jakko : remember that the names of your files are just and only names, so you can have a .avi named as a .toto, it will still be a .avi and be readable as one (i could name all my .txt files into .jakko files without problems lol)

I think windows bases his detection of formats only with the file names though, but that's windows... ;p

^Right, it is just like a last name if you change your last name, you will still be you. I think that should be .rofl not .roff

I think there is a command in linux that will tell you what a file is, regardless of the name. I can't remember what it is though... >
