Default Empty Gateway?

I recently got a new laptop.
Naturally, I want to use the internet on it.

So I connected it my wireless router network. The computer says that it's connected to the network, but it also says that there is an empty gateway or something and thus doesn't connect to the internet.

    So, uh...help?

the gateway is the IP address of the router. The router is the 'gate' to which all computers on the network must pass to get to the cable modem, and thus the internet. This also applies vise-versa, making it a great spot for a firewall, and why a firewall of some sorts is usually built into the router.

So...umm... check the wireless card's TCP/IP properties. Make sure the IP and DNS are all configured for DHCP and to be assigned by the router (or make them match whatever settings are set on the other computers that do work). After that, it's the router's fault.

I have no idea what to tell you about that... I guess give me the make and model of the router and I can look it up.

Another thing you might try is going to the command line on your laptop and typing
ipconfig /release
    ipconfig /renew
