    Default Help for upgrading comp

    Currently i have a:
    AMD 3800 x2
    7800 GT
    550 Watt power supply
    2 GB ram
Asus Sli-deluxe motherboard (socket 939 i think, the one before the am2 socket)
    and other non important things.

What i wanted to find out, was if i wanted to upgrade to an 8800 GTS, first should i get the 320 or 640 version, and would my mobo and ps be able to run it? Also, since my processor is almost obsolete, i wanted to switch to a core 2 duo, but is it easy to switch from an AMD system, or would i be better off just waiting for a new amd chip (after am2)?

First I suggest you get a new power supply, cause 550 watt is NOT going to help an 8000 series. If you have socket 939, then get Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 or E6600. That would mean you would have to get a new motherboard since AMD started making socket F. This is all in my opinion you should ask Jyuu he knows a crap more than me.

It would be cheaper for you to stick to 939 for now. Get like a 4800+ and overclock it.
As for the 8800GTS, it all comes down to your in-game settings. If you play at higher than 1280x1024 with antialiasing, get the 640.

Depends on what type of 550W PSU it is.
A generic one won't do it, but a PCP&C/Corsair/Tagan will.
