So I finally got the cap on my cable internet removed but the bastards want me to stop uploading. They say that the cap will go back on if i "abuse" my upload speed. Supposedly my sustained uploads strained the cable network and they cut me down for the security of the network. They mandated that I upload for no longer than two to three minutes at a time and pause intermittently in order to keep the cap off. Bullshit I claim saying that I am paying for a service and they are not providing it since even though the cost is the same theyre not giving me the advertised speeds. So now I am looking to find a comprable internet service provider who will not only let me upload but not bitch about it when I do. The first thing that jumps to mind is Verizon FiOs but I just want the opinions of the techies out there. Is it better to follow Cablevisions obscenely stupid requirements or just cough up the extra ten bucks a month and switch to fios.
right now im getting
Download Speed: 8544 kbps (1068 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 1839 kbps (229.9 KB/sec transfer rate)
from cable on my laptop. my PC is a bit faster to download with probably around 1.5 MB/sec (~12000 kbps) to download with... uploads are about the same
FiOs advertises at about 15000 kbps download and ~2000 kbps upload for $49.99 a month.
Is it worth it to switch and will i most likely have the same problem if i do?
