Default Need help with home networking

I need help with setting up a NETGEAR router (WGU624)

The DSL internet setup is a modem with a switch and goes through around the house (cat 5 slot) in every room, my friend would like to set up a wireless router, the thing is he doesn't want to mess around with the landlord internet setup (a modem with a switch) so he tried to set up the wireless router from his own room.

I helped him set up the router, changed the LAN TCP/IP settings from default (192.168.1.1) to 192.168.2.1 and RIP version: RIP-2B, it works......... But somehow it's kind of slow ( compared to without using router), it loads some website quick (gmail) and slow on other website (hotmail), funnily I can still watch youtube pretty fast. I tried all that with IE,
and when I tried with firefox, it slows even more, I can't even watch youtube but I can go to the webpage. I tried newegg, the picture doesn't load but the webpage loads.

    any ideas?

I'm sure you tired it... but turn RIP 2 off. Set it to none, or RIP-1. Could cause compatibility issues. It shouldn't... but worth a shot. :S Other than that, crank the power up a bit if you can... maybe there's some noise. I don't have a lot of ideas about this one.

    EDIT:
Also I see that's a Super-G. Using non-SuperG hardware tends to cause lackluster performance. That could be an issue.
Make sure the thing is updated too, as they keep tweeking that technology (it's all halfass tweeks till N is fully ratified, and it hasn't been yet... the N devices are all based off drafts at this point).

Thanks vol, I solved it, I looked up the netgear's tech page,
and lowered the MTU size from 1500 to 1472 and turned on the (doesn't work with RIP1) RIP-2B, and it works, msn messenger, youtube, and newegg work just fine, I haven't checked other website, but I think it should work (thread can be deleted)

Nah, if you fixed it then it's good info.

Glad you got it working... every review I've seen of it says this thing is trash. Works like half the time. Guess it just takes some tweeking. XD
