Default Windows Vista is the most hardware efficient OS I've used.

And that's saying something, for I also use OS X 10.4 (on a dual 3GHz Woodcrest Xeon), SUSE, Debian and Ubuntu.

I played back EIGHT H.264 720p and 1080p videos without any slowdown or stuttering on Quicktime and Windows Media Player and Media Player Classic. I then flipped them around with Flip 3D and it would still play smoothly. Then for kicks I started a game of Counter Strike Source with 32 bots and it was STILL running smoothly.

    A single one.

Most video decoding is done by the processor.

Nonetheless, I am using the same hardware across multiple operating systems to eliminate bias.

Id tell you your computer is a steroid addicted monstosity of epic cost but you'd just tell me to mow some lawns...

... ya think Vista would improve the performance of my little Latitude D610?

And I specify that it runs faster than XP with the same hardware.

As long as you have at least 1GB of RAM, go for it.

nope I got 512... What kind of ram does this damn thing use anyway? Ive been wanting to upgrade some parts in my D610 for a while now. And dont I need a GPU? or is that 3d window scrolling thing optional.

the windows Aero is optional, but there is a workaround trick for the Aero if you only have 512MB RAM, but again your D610 probably has the standard 64MB video memory, so you won't be able to see the beauty of windows vista

Hey, Jyuu, I was wondering if you could tell me what how much CPU Usage you're getting in Task Manager while in Vista?

I know there are other factors, but I was only looking for a general answer...

When I am not doing anything?
    1% or so.
    2% at most.
