Computer Freeze When using dvd-drives
Well my main problem is this, whenever i access anything on my dvd-drive, it just completely freezes the computer.
When i try to burn anything on it, the computer freezes.
Whenever i try to open a cd file, the computer freezes.
I was thinking of reformatting my computer but then again, i need that dvd drive to burn my files and folders as backup.
This problem has only occurred recently and my computer has always been perfectly fine with burning dvds/cds and opening cd files.
Thanks for the help in advance
... Umm... weird. Try holding shift down to disable Autoplay when you put the disk in. Also go to device manager, secondary IDE channel properties, and make sure the DVD drive is running in DMA mode and not in PIO.

Hmm.. thanks for the help, but it still freezes and stuffs up.
Do u suggest i get me another dvd driver n replace it?
it sounds like a virus deleted some execution file for your driver or something... If that driver originally came with your computer you should be able to launch an auto repair from the reboot cd/'s.
The repairs only replace files that have change for the ones that are on the disk (you won't loose any other type of information).
ps:try this when you turning on your computer(booting process). If it still can't read the cd them get another driver to run the reboot cds.
I must admit, I've never seen or heard of disk reading FREEZING a system. I guess next thing I would try is going into device manager and seeing if uninstalling the Drive and rebooting helps (note after re-boot you might need to go to the device manager and tell it to scan for hardware changes).
Do you have a Knoppix or Slax disk... or something else that will boot you into a different enviornment. At least that will tell you for sure if it's a windows or hardware problem. It sounds like windows... but that's weird as hell. :S
thanks to Silverwmoon!
actually that happened to me,

some driver is not compatible with some software,
I once used a burner software from dell, I don't remember what's the name, it was giving me trouble, then I tried nero, it works very well with my drive.
