game design books
yo, I think this is the right place to post this so here you go:
I'm looking for a book on game design that teaches how to use DirectX and to program it you need to use c++. I very much would like a book for 2d video games if possible, but 3d is fine too as long as is for a beginner degree. I have looked for one for a while but there are so many different books that I don't know which is better.
ps: I need game design books that use c++, I don't need c++ books.
That should give you a good intro, from the looks of it. I know a chunk of C, so the programming methods given in the DX part of that book look to be C++ to me. Other than that, go to your library. They often have more than you think. Try book stores, and if those fail, take a look around amazon.
I went to my local library "Barnes & Noble" and found only 3 books, one was for basic visual only, the second used c, and the 3 one had a whole new program of drag and drop .
If you know any good game design book please tell me about it, I was looking into amazon the other day and found a few books. The only thing is that I want a book that really works and not a piece of trash who's code won't even compile. "Found a lot of those"
anything from a reputable company should do the trick. I like oreilly books. They're expensive, but usually really good, and a lot of the time come with the software or extra utilities you need (obviously it won't include visual studio or anything, but if they want you to run BCC, it will probably have that... depends on the book).
Don't worry so much about finding that one perfect book. You're not going to. There is always going to be that one book that has a little more on this, or a little more on that.
How about one of those two? Honestly you could spend months looking up books.
If your still worried, I'd join a game developer's forum and ask there. Just make sure it's a forum that has DX developers. If they are OpenGL+SDL, you'll get the shit flamed out of you for using a bloated, confusing, and slower to program API. XD
thanks, I'll read more about those book and probably buy one of them. programing seems so easy to do, until you have to come with your own stuff ><.
thanks a lot.
