    Default Changing File Information

Eh, well, it's not much of a problem, I guess, because it's not messing up my computer, but I download lots of music and often I want to change information that I see - I have Windows XP of some kind - such as the artist's name and album, because sometimes it's... strange, or nonexistant, and it's irritating when I upload this to my MP3 player. I know I can change the title of the song (right-click, properties, and the other screen), but the fields for song information are always darkened, and I can't edit them. Is there any way I can change these bits of information - the artist name and album - on a file?

    you almost got there,
Right click file, properties (make sure the read-only is unchecked), go to summary tab, click advanced, then fill in the values for the album, artist, lyric, etc

if you want to change multp files, just highlight those files and do the above.

Yeah I saw that... oh, you mean you just click on the space and you can fill it in? Well, isn't that dumb of me. I do the same thing for thread titles in DR section.

*sigh* Well, thanks for putting up with my foolishness. And for the answer. ^_^

No, no... Jyuu was right. Use Mp3Tag.
    http://www.mp3tag.de/en/
Download it now... it's orgasmic. It will save you loads of time, especially once you get the hang of using the album databases.

Also, the 'non-existent' tags you speak of is probably because they are in a version higher than the player program supports. There are multiple versions of the ID3tags that MP3s use. The only player I've ever seen that has been compatable with just about everything is XMMS... and since that's not common, you're best using ID3v1 and v2. Keep it simple.

Okay, I'll check that out. ^_^ Does it support other languages? Most of my music is J-pop and if I have the kanji for the artist's name, I'll try to use that...

Umm... shit, I'm not sure, Digi. According to the site, Korean and T&S Chinese are included in the install, but I don't see Japanese on the list.

With that in mind though, it COULD be that that is just the languages for the interface. If you can get windows to accept the characters, I'm betting it will let you input and display them. Afterall, the trick is getting the ID3 tag to accept the input, and if you can do it from windows, then obviously that isn't a problem. I don't see why the program would reject it... it's just character code, after all. But... it might. I'd test it for you... but I have all of 2 J-Pop songs maybe (more rock, but I think it falls under pop) and those tags are translated to english... or were english to begin with.

You'll just have to try it. If it does, I think you'll love it. If not, guess we can try and find you another program. Honestly... after you see what a program like this can do, you'll never want to go back to manually entering each and every song with Artist, Track, Number, etc. again.
