Default IE 7 Released (and Patched)

For those of you who are waiting for the betas to go the Fsck away, wait no longer. IE 7 was released as of Monday afternoon, and really took notice when developers started talking about it in their blogs Wednesday (yeah, yeah, I know I'm behind).

New features include enhanced security (and it's allready been patched), tabbed web browsing (which is stupid and will never catch on... *cough*), enhanced printing features (uhh... kay... and yes I do have a smartass reply for just about everything), RSS Feeds (because we told them they would be shot if they tried to create their own 'feed' format this time), a search box (clap fucking clap), Active-X Opt in (all active X stuff is off by default... I'd give them points for this, but they created active-x in the first place... but I'll be downloading it for this reason... got to have it for win update), a no add-ons mode (who want's to bet me this doesn't include disabling the Windows Genuine Advantage Add-on? Come on... who want's to bet me... anyone?) for troubleshooting, and many new compatibility fixes (like Alpha layer for PNG format pictures, so now transparency will render correctly... which was supposed to be fixed back when 98 came out or some shit... REJOICE ARKIE! DANCE ARKIE DANCE!).

If your running Vista, you also get parental controls (NO PR0N FOR YOU!) and Isolation Mode (anything that does get through, although not supposed to, supposedly can't get to anywhere but temp internet folder, as IE7 will not interact with any other program on the system... has M$ descovered program permissions?).

Ok, here you go. Have fun kiddies.

If I lose all my ultra-paranoid settings because of this fucker, I'm going to be pissed... *grumble*

How about some thoughs or first impressions? I'm curious.
    Vol~

I haven't installed IE7 yet on XP but I do have the final build of IE7+ on Windows Vista 5600 and it runs just fine.

Man IE fails and will always fail. Mainly because it makes a clicking sound everytime you click something. IT MAKES ME GO CRAZY!!!!

ok... lets get this over with.

    Installation:
Fail with flying colors. Don't get me wrong, the install went ok, but the entire process drove me nuts. First up was backup any data and settings you are worried about. Oh, sweet... sweet. Thanks.
Next we had turn off any programs and disable AV and Spyware scanners. Ok, disabled internet, now disabling just about everything else.
Licence agreement... standard. Can install on any licenced XP SP2 or 2003 SP1 blah blah...
YOU MUST VALIDATE TO INSTALL THIS SOFTWARE!... you guys are pathetic... allright, validate it. Thirty seconds later, done.
Download patches and the Microsoft Malicious Software Removal tool? Umm... no. I don't want the tool, just the patches, so I will do it myself.
Installing files and other such shit... go get coffee. MS continues their trend of not showing you what's going on by providing you with very little information at the top, and a green bar going back and forth across the screen like a heart monitor as a progress bar. That tells me nothing. All I got to go on is my HD light. The thing could have failed and I wouldn't have known for a half hour.
So about 15 minutes later (yes, it took that long), it was all done installing... guess what? RESTART.

    First Steps
Startup and it does this crazy import thing... takes 2 seconds, but I don't have much in the way of IE favorites or anything.
Ok, so first things first... fuck that removal tool, but I need my patches. Run Microsoft Update! Prompt asking if this scipt is ok. Sweet, ultra paranoid settings still in place. Good. Updates... none... ooooh kaaaay.

Lets check out ST... OH GODS WHY IS IT SO UGLY?! MY EYES!!! TURN IT OFF!!!

huff.. huff... firefox up... check ST... it's fine... what the fuck?

Alright alright... try this again... start IE.
Ooooh. New screen. Settings. Ok... search bar... want to select my own.
ClearType... aaaaaaah. Here is the culprit. Why the hell would you enable ClearType in IE seperatly. It's a windows setting. System wide... bah. Whatever... makes my screen look like shit and I have a headache in 30 seconds. OFF.
Yada yada... participate in a feedback program that will never ask you your opinion on the software but will track what you do with it? How about no...

Alright... ST. Oh much better. Hrmm... play with the controls.
Right clicking the top gets me the File, View, Edit, etc back... but it's below the navigation buttons. Umm... that's fucked up. Can't seem to move it. Alright.
Home is way off by it's lonesome with a print, tools and Page buttons. Refresh and stop are on the opposite side of the URL bar from the back and forward buttons. Go button is gone (no loss there).
Set google as default search, that's easy enough. Oooo find on page. Alright that opens a floating window... that's disapointing. You'd think they'd streamline it in somewhere.
Favorites bar is ok... you can pin it if you want. RSS... MS stuff by default, but auto update is turned off. Thank gods. I would have forgot if it didn't do it by default.
Lets check out these little buttons to the right. Print is print. Page is all the stuff they didn't want to put into right click. Open in Visual Studio 2005... ok, that's interesting. Have to check that out later. Tools is straight forward. Internet options is expanded and still straightforward. Customize buttons. Lets add full screen. Ahh, doesn't matter because you loose them off the screen anyway. Weak. Ah... unlock toolbar. There we go.
F11... ok, that' a pretty nice full screan view. Dockable URL bar. Nicely done.
Tabs... lets see what you got. New tab... click stub. Ok. Close tab. Click X on focused tab. Middle click for unfocused tab? Yes, they did. Good. Need that. You die without that. Multiple tabs. Quick tab. Little list. Cute. Other button... ok, big screenshot of tabs. Nice feature by default. Have a similar one in Firefox throgh a well written extention. Awww, but you can't re-arange the tabs in this mode. Party foul. That should be a given.
Had to look up 'Tab Groups'. Sounds cool, but it's just making a batch script automaticly to open a bunch of pages in one shot from the favorites menu. Nothing special. Hrmm... multiple homepages could be nice though. That's a cool feature.
Ah, lets head to slashdot and check the RSS implimentation. RSS feed lights up... click it... and tab full of feeds. Hrmm... ok, that's a way to do it.
Not much else to see... oh, zoom... weeee~. Moving on.

    Final Annalysis
No. It's got some cool features, but the interface bothers me. Go here to go back, here to refresh, here to go home, here for bookmarks... no thanks. At least let me move the shit around myself. Without shortcut keys or mouse gestures, that would get old really fast to me. If I have to say anything would convince me to use it... it would be that full screen mode. That was nice. The URL bar hides... that's just win to me.

Ah well... hope it lives up to that secure claim. Back to never using it again save for the 'View Page in IE' extention I got. That's my first impressions... nice try. How's everyone else liking (or lack thereof) it?

I use Vista RC1's IE7: it crashes on me whenever I open too many tabs for too long.

    Mwahahahahah.

eh what's wrong? I don't see anything wrong?

At least let me move the shit around myself. Without shortcut keys or mouse gestures,
Oh Gawd Vol, you know What, that's what I've been thinking about,
the button is ridicously fixed and
it is freakin annoying if you have to move your cursor to refresh or print, and move to the other side
to go back or forward. oh I wish they'd invent the ultimate mouse, that would have like 10 buttons
that you can reporgram for any function that you like. I hate moving my hands & arms.

I have a hand on my G15 and I just press the macro keys for everything.
I also just use a cheap G7 to tilt and forward/back my way across any browser. =\

It had ClearType on... Vol. Hate. Cleartype.
Makes eyes cry out in pain. Maybe if I had a 1900xsomeodd display, but it just makes things big and ghosty on my 1200x800 LCD laptop display.

I also thought I should mention this, but forgot last night. There is an extensive release notes for IE7. This is one entry.

Accessing websites that only work with Internet Explorer 6-- Some websites host pages that are hard coded to read the User Agent string, and only accept the value for Internet Explorer 6. You can temporarily appear to the website that you are using Internet Explorer 6 by using the User Agent Utility. The tool will create an instance of Internet Explorer 7 that emulates Internet Explorer 6. Other instances of Internet Explorer 7 will not be affected.

So if your bank site quits working, you might have to go with that little workaround.

Nisee Jyuu, but it would be awesome if they have those macro keys on the mouse rather than on the keyboard.

if they could put more reprogrammable button on this, I would buy it.
