ok, i just got a new motherboard. put everything where it supposed to be together, and i am trying to use it -_-
do i need to set up bios first before using it? because when i turn it on, it just say something like window shut down or something. if so, how do i do it? >_<
do i need a floppy drive to setup the bios? cuz i didnt buy one of those...
help me out!
Could you be any less descriptive?
hmm.... lets see..
well, first of all, i am using my old harddrive already with windows and every thing. obviously, the first thing i see the screen is this display of choice of like run "safe mode" "resume with previous setting", etc stuff. (this supposed to be the "your computer wasnt shut down properly last time" screen)....so doesnt matter which i choose, next screen would be like "encounter errors, windows is shutting down" stuff.
my question was that i need to inform my hard drive of the new motherboard, right?( dumb question, i know....but how do i do it? >_<)
any floppy required to do so?
if u still dont understand, i'll try my best to describe it more >_<;
That's the really fun feature of not working with another motherboard that Windows has. So basically you have to reinstall Windows. And yes, you need to set BIOS settings for your system to work optimally. You can get to BIOS setup by pressing a key (usually del or F2) during the initial boot (before Windows boots).
Well if that screen appears that means the system is able to boot well into the loader.. Seems like the problem is due to either:
1. Drivers (which you pointed out)
2. Corrupt Windows installation
3. Incompatibility with your video card (quite unlikely I guess)
Since it's a new motherboard, it might not be a good idea to launch straight to the bios settings - default settings are usually the most compatible settings. When you are able to get to windows, then you can restart and tweak away. Try posting the brand and model of your old and new motherboard, that might help others..
But yeah, you might need to reinstall Windows all over again... But try those first.
yeah,...i cant get to windows ><
i keep getting this message
"A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer."....check for viruses on your computer. remove any newly installed hard drives or hard drive controllers. check your hard drive to make sure it is properly configured and terminated. run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruption, and then restart your computer."
***STOP: 0x0000007B (0xF894D640, 0xC0000034, 0x00000000, 0x0000000)
i have not a fricken clue what the heck that means....do i need to install windows again for it to work? any alternative?...maybe
thx again for all your advises ^^ greatly appreciated
Don't despair yet! Still have that good ol' Windows XP Installation CD? If so, boot from the CD (Enter the BIOS setup, go to boot or boot order or sth like that, then get your CD/DVD drive to the top of the list of boot devices. Save configuration. Insert that cd into the drive, then restart).
There should be some recovery options or "Repair Windows Installation". You should at least be able to get to a DOS prompt, from which you can run chkdsk /f (although I doubt that would help, since it's unlikely - but not impossible - that your problem is due to a bad disk).
If you're lucky enough to get to safe mode, install drivers that came with your motherboard. Drivers are likely to be the main culprit behind this. There is however, one last possibility - bad / incompatible memory (RAM), in which case you'll have to tweak the BIOS settings or buy a new set of RAM...
reinstall... it's not worth it to have all those extra devices and services loaded up. Will defeat the purpose of getting the new compie.
thx, this problem solved! just jumping from one hole to the other....
