    Default .mp4 format problem

I downloaded an epidode of .hack Roots from A-source on IRC and it is in .mp4 format, and I don't have anything that plays that on my computer; it always says there is an error. Do I need a special program to use this format. (My computer suggests using "quicktime player application" but it doesn't work)

    Even gynecologists don't understand women.

.mp4 is a new(ish) container format, I believe. Typically used by Apple (hence the quicktime reference), but others use it, including Nero (I think...). What that means is that within the file is a video and audio stream, which may be any of a number of formats.

So what you need is not only a contiainer splitter, but the proper codecs to play what's in the container.

Check CN's Big List of Codec Packs and Media Players.
Pick whatever you chose to go with (a codec pack usually comes with a media player or two... I suggest CCCP or K-Lite), a codec pack or a media player with codecs built in (like MPlayer or VCL). From there you should be good to go.
