    Default bypassing proxy servers

anyone know how to get pass a firewall/proxy server without actually installing a program. the uni's blocked megauploads for some (obvious) reason but the closest thing i can find won't load up java properly, hence no download. :'(

Umm... to get past a firewall, you need to either tunnel out to a remote client, or try and use a proxy server. Most of those programs are Open Proxies, which you might get away with using... but a lot of them ask that you don't use them for mass dowloading or file sharing. Can't tell you what to do on that though, so if you want to try another one... couldn't hurt.

A private proxy may work, but I really don't know how to set one up. That would require that you or a very willing (or gullible) friend have a computer at home with an always on (broadband type) connection that you would be willing to leave running 24/7 to make all your internet requests for you. Basicly, you send it your requests, the computer sends them out and downloads them for you, then sends them back to you.

The other thing you can do is to tunnel out to another computer (probably your own) that, again, is powered on and has an always on connection. This would be done (windows wise, which is what I'm assuming your talking about) with software like... err... I think PC Anywhere. But, windows has a connection client built in, the Remote Desktop Connection software (Start>Run>MSTSC.EXE). This method would basicly bring up your desktop at home, and allow you to run your home computer from where you are at, hence downloading the files to your home computer, and then making your home computer send them to you (there are a few ways to do this, ranging from email to logging into a shared folder/drive).

The problem with the Remote Desktop Connection method is that... I don't know how to set up your home computer to recieve the connection, and allow you to manipulate it. For security reasons, I'm sure that it isn't ready to let you do that by default, so you will have to look that up. I don't have time right now, but I may (note: MAY... don't count on it) look it up in the furture. If not, hopefully you can find how to do that, or someone else can explain how to do that part. I'm not so hot at networking. XD

lol. Well, you could tunnel into your work computer if you wanted. Like I said, all you have to do is figgure out how to set it up, and hope your work's firewall won't block your incoming connection.

Because of that reason though, any admin worth a shit will probably notice you comming in past his/her firewall. However, if they don't notice you downloading a few hundred megs of stuff off rapidshare (or whatever) during work, you probably could slip it past them.

I don't know... your call, your risk.
