    Default toshiba gigabeat

i'm looking for a new mp3 player (ipod alternative) and am wondering if anyone has one of these (the new s version) or has heard of people's experiences with them. i'm not sure if they're out in the US yet, though.

I just read the first review that came up on Google. Those look fun... and I've always liked Toshiba for their repair records (sony may be better rated performance wise, but their rate of repair is usually pretty bad). That might actually sway me from buying another Creative next time.

I wouldn't mind hearing of an experience with this device, either. I especially want to hear about it after reading this...

"Basically, I could tag my favorite songs with a bookmark. When I selected the Bookmark folder and pressed play, only the bookmarked tunes played."

    That sounds niiiice.

Now if only it played Vorbis...
    Vol~

it doesn't play ogg (and errr...whatever the thing is for video)? i could've sworn it did.... or maybe i'm confusing it with one of my wishes in an mp3 player/pmp/pvp. well i wouldn't know anything about toshiba really save the fact it seems their products can be quite durable. i have a toshiba cell phone i've had for about 3 years now and i've dropped it several times on several hard surfaces (like asphalt...oooooh) and all it has is a few scratches. my peers seem incapable of keeping their phones for over a year (but i guess this is mostly losing their phones, but some cases they've dropped them and broken them).

the bookmark thing makes no difference to me really (i mean what do i need 60GB for if i'm only gonna listen to my favorite bands over and over and over....?). i'm not overly impressed by the gigabeat. i like it because it matches the ipod in most aspects and beats it in others. i've read just about every review i've seen. lol i kinda went crazy on cnet looking at videos for all kinds of players....and then youtube... that reminds me, i've got to check google video now...heh.

i REALLY want a vision:m. but of course they only go up to 30GB versions.... *SIGH* ~suspiro~

Err... I didn't see where it supported Vorbis on any of the sites I read. If it did, it would definatly make it to the top of my 'crap to buy' list.

It has caught the attention of the RockBox project though... soooo maybe soon. Mmm... warrenty void.

    EDIT:
Hahahaha... reading the rockbox page. I really want to steal my friend's iPod and load this on it.
Freak him out when he turns it on and is able to play Doom. (yes... I said Doom. XD )

i'm far too unsavvy to put rockbox or linux on my ipod (well, i currently have only a 4th gen anyway...it wouldn't be any fun). and i really like the ipod software anyway.

    haha warranty void...yeah [see unsavvyness]

btw i've seen videos on youtube of people playing doom on their ipods. it was interesting, but i don't think the click wheel is very good for games. the gigabeat'd be much better.

Meh, just get an iPod. It does the job nice and easy. The Zen Vision M is a real brick.
