Alright, I just read c9 and can finally place my finger on what I meant when I said this near the start of the manga:

As everyone has been saying, this manga is an analog of Suzuka. If you just look at the surface, it might be more tempting to even say we have the exact same character and relationship triangle as in Suzuka. The next popular interpretation of the characters is that this is just like Suzuka with Honoka and Suzuka reversed.

If you look at these claims objectively, there's still a lot of confusion and mismatches within them. However, what puts the twist in this rendition is that the character positions/ relationships aren't the same as before. We've been mislead by the fact that Haruto seems to be the main character in this manga. If you look at relationship positions though, the character's begin to resolve:
Eba is the Yamato analog- she moves from a foreign place for unknown reasons (anyone else wanna bet it's because 'she felt something would change'?) and quickly fell for a somewhat cantankerous person who gives her emotional distress due to obstacles preventing her pursuit of love (e.g his crush).

first off, i refute the Suzuka being a sports manga thing, cause its not, it just happens there were some sports in it cause most of the time it was drama. As for X2, it also involves school life story and u right it is damn good. I'm surprised theere aren't any more teacher-student manga that aren't shoujo out there.
I also agree that Suzuka wasn't a legitimate sports manga (but then again, for me neither are most of Adachi's works), but I too feel there is a distinction in genre between the two. Kimi to Iru Machi is more in line with the traditional school romance while UxU lines with teacher/student romances. That means that UxU is less into this classic or insulated portrayal of love common to school romances and has more external or older themes, such as constraints on love due to societal standards (the whole man and woman dynamic that seems to be so important in furthering Jin-ho's and his teacher's relationship).

I'd like to see if kouji really change the perspective here(from hero to heroine)
although I have to agree so far the development only in eba(unlike suzuka and cross over where the main hero is a male)
I hope that kanzaki has honoka's personalities...heheh the last page was interesting

So it seems Kanzaki Sr. is a good manipulator and a tester. So far this little subplot seems all to cliche. Any other responses?

Lol, Seo put a little homage to Suzuka in ch 29 w/ a Honoka reference: http://www.onemanga.com/Kimi_no_Iru_Machi/29/09/

Also in ch 31, with drunk return of the drunk girls: http://www.onemanga.com/Kimi_no_Iru_Machi/31/06/

While reading til the up-to-date chapter, why am I feeling that this is gonna be one long boring manga?? I think Seo is trying to live up the Suzuka fever before, but I dont think he is accomplishing it.

Dunno, maybe you're reading the wrong genre. Go read another shounen or something.

Not every mangaka's works HAS to exceed the previous.
'Living up to the predecessor's fame' is just part of our own expectation (the reader) but not necessarily the mangaka's intention. All I expect from a known mangaka's newest series is whether or not it makes an interesting read, not if its any better that his/her previous work.

    That's a good point.

I'm not saying I'm gonna stop reading this but i just think that he will make the same old story again. So what I'm saying is that he is trying to make us feel that suzuka and kimi no is somewhat related. He even gave signs in chap 29 I think. Oh well I guess we don't really know until it ends...
