I disagree, you only say that because your head is full of Yamato and Suzuka's relation prosperity...
If you had put yourself in her place, you would have realised how she feels...
She was just dumped by her boyfriend... She is feeling very down ( just like Yamato had felt when Suzuka dumped him for the first time) but for Yui, there are no "Yuka" to console him by telling own story. So while she is in her pitiful undead stage, lying on the bad face upon pillow, her friend or, maybe, even Hatori, invites her to a group date, telling that there are a lot of fish in the ocean and she will be able to meet some nice guy... So she gets a hold of herself and goes to that group date, hoping to chit-chat some and get rid of loneliness... when she arrives she meets her partner and does nothing except for what she should do on a group date... Soon she realises that Yamato is very simillar to herself, and slowly falls in love with him, but she also realises that he has a girlfriend... She asks him to go out with her once more. (Probably because her condition was still very bad, so she couldn't remain all alone, well that is the only place where you can call her selfish). And after that day in amusement park she parts ways with Yamato. It was useless after all.
Then, after some time, i am not sure how long has it been month, two, half a year, year... She meets Yamato again. Coincidently, he comes to her restarant for a job interview. So he begins to work with her... Time passess, she finds more and more things about Yamato. Starting to admire him more, and her old feeling come back, she feels love towards him once again... That feeling grows stronger, untill one day, Yui recieves a message that Yamato broke up with Suzuka, and she went away for whole year... So she comes over to Yamato's and finds him half dead...
Next move is quiet logical. From her point of view: Yamato has broken up with Suzuka, things won't be getting any better since Suzuka is gone to study aboard, Yamato is in dispair, she loves him very much. And so she realises that this is the moment of truth... If he won't accept her feelings now, he never will. So she strikes. Maybe her way of doing it is "a little" rushy, but thats her personality... And there is nothing selfish about it either. What do you think should she have done after hearing that Yamato broke up with Suzuka? Watching him suffer from outside? Consoling him by telling that "Suzuka is gone for just a year, you can wait for her returnal, and then everything might go on fine with"?
