Boycott China's Olympic Games 2008?

Well, first I highly doubt that the new Sports Arena subforum will work. We are an international community, but we don't share the same sports interests. I myself don't know many things about Baseball and American Footbal, as Americans won't know many about European Soccer or Formula 1. So I predict this will be a very low frequency subforum. 'Nuff nagging... I want to contibute for sure.

So what do you think about the discussion about protests against Chinas acting in Tibet and make a boycott of this years Olympics. Still the politicans are not sure about this, but what's the global publics opinion?
I myself had my doubt from the beginnig to give a repressive country like China the Olypmic Games. It will be a propaganda show for them after all. So I will boycott the games myself and won't watch them on TV. And I want Free Tibet...

Are you daft? Every country uses the Olympic games as propaganda to toot their own horn. Or else why would they even want to host the Games in the first place?
The Chinese government is only reacting to Tibetan dissenters who have torched Chinese businesses and ventures in Tibet. I don't know about you, but when someone screws around with stuff in my country, I'd want the government to get involved as well. China is in no way more oppressive than any other global power. Have you even been to China? Have you even experienced what it's like?
It's not some police state that you think it is. People are free to do what they like. Free enterprise reigns supreme. Western nations just have biased media coverage against it because it is the last surviving and thriving stronghold of Communism. But it's not even Communist anymore, the economy has been capitalist ever since the 80s. France and many parts of Europe are more socialist than China
Take a stroll around Shanghai, or any other city for that matter and it feels no different from any other metropolitan area from around the world. Go to the countryside and it's just like any other agricultural community from around the world. How is China any more a repressive country than any other?

Whoever boycotts the Beijing Olympics is a misinformed fool, spoonfed Western media's own propaganda.

I really don't care about the olimpic games and probably never will. But I think if you plan on boycotting the olympics just because you don't agree with the Chinese government then you might as well stop using Chinese products and stuff as way of protesting too an acting accordingly to your believes, an I doubt doing that is plausible.
