It also doesn't help that China is the largest, richest, most disturbingly overpopulated "backwards foreign land" compared to America.

By the way, America: It's like Europe, only a few hundred years behind in foreign relations and way too many guns to care.

I seem to be the only one that voted, "yes," in spite of all the "Free Tibet," bull people on this thread seem to be spouting(for the record, pre-Chinese controlled Tibet seems, to me at least, to be a far worse place than the current Tibet).

I just don't like the Olympics, so any reason not to watch it is a good reason for me.

It's better in the same way that Native Americans were better off after the colonists came. Though the degree of difference is of course very important, the PRC isn't committing genocide or relocation the natives for example.

I think it's China's own fault now. They had all the time since they got the Olympic Games to change their human rights, so just serves them right to get a serious bashing around the globe.

It will be more serious when the Games start, I guess. Not only Tibetans, but all the Chinese People who are angry upon this corrupt goverment will use the chance; Falun Gong, Dissidents and angry workers and farmers that have been stolen from by goverment officials will strike back. The Olympic Games '08 will be a total desaster, so it's better to boycott this mischief from the start.

The Falun Gong is like a fucking cult, they go door to door in China trying to recruit, and phone spam your ass to death.
Chinese citizens are all for the Olympic games. Everybody supports it there. It means revenue and publicity. The people around Beijing willingly sacrificed many things to make this happen. The people of China have worked very hard to make the 2008 Olympic games a success. The government is and always has taken great strides to help the common plebian. When great snowstorms wreaked havoc on the countryside this past winter, the PLA went in and helped with the recovery work and rebuilt entire towns. Over and over, the government has advanced China into the forefront of global prosperity. There is always room for corruption, especially in a country so vast. Western media just likes to blow everything out of proportion. "Oh look at those dirty Chinese, they're the Axis of Evil, blah blah blah blah," But really, how is it any different from the corruption in the United States with politicians taking special interest money and having $50,000 trysts? Should the world boycott the Olympics when it comes to America? God forbid! So stop being so myopic and biased.
The Olympics are a global event. By boycotting the Games, you're making a statement to the world as a whole that you don't want to be a part of the global community.

It all seems a matter of where you watch the news, but I wouldn't go so far to think that all western media channels spread propaganda and that one govermental controlled TV is not biased.
I just wonder how well the misinformation works so well on all Chinese People, telling them this is all a conspiracy of the Dalai Lama and implanting them some constant sense of inferiority compared to the west.

Is this not the Dalai Lama's doing? He is the only one who will gain from this. The rest of the Tibetan people live a comfortable life governing themselves and receiving aid from the Chinese government. The Dalai Lama has been displaced and exiled, he stands to gain something. It would frankly make no difference for the rest of Tibet.
