Yoh and His Marijuana
Okay, I know Yoh seems spacey and all, but a pot smoker? Can't be! But what's up with the marijuana leaf prints that's always on his clothes and other stuff (like his blanket)? Just what is Takei implying? Is it all aesthetics? He does seem purposeful in everything he does though....I'm beginning to wonder...........

I don't really think Yoh is on drugs. But his name DOES mean marijuana leaf or so I've been told. Yoh means leaf. I've heard Asakura means marijuana, though I doubt it. But there are other drug references as well. One of them being Morphine. I guess he just thinks it's funny. But Yoh on drugs? No way. He's too sweet!

I agree. I think it's simply cos Yoh's name means 'leaf' and all.... and the mangaka also drew the leaf seperately once, and labelled it only as 'leaf' - I think it has nothing to do with marijuana...
but hey, 'asakura' in Chinese (pronouced 'ma chong' in cantonese...) does sound a bit like 'marijuana'.....allowing for the english-to-chinese twists...

Well ithink it was some kind of the asakura family's symbol. you know, usually a big and famous family in japan has their own family symbol...
you can find the leaf ( i would rather say 'leaf' adn not marijuana) symbol in many of yoh's clothes, too.

definately a pothead. let's see, into reggae, very laid back, clear mind, blatant pot leaf, I understand his name meaning leaf etc, but it's a pot leaf not a maple leaf or any other leaf, it's a pot leaf. I like to think he's a pot smoker, although he is a bit young, but hey whatever

No. My Yoh is not on drugs!
He's too cute. He would never do drugs. I think the leaf thing is just a big joke. I don't think it's meant to be taken seriously.

I think his name was after "Leaf" was because he was taught the art of necromancy first. Since the most basic of the necromancy is to create eart spirits from leaves, I can somewhat make the connection. Just my 2 cents.

i think the makers only wanted to put more emphasis on yoh's attitude. >very laxx<
cause it makes sense when u find him "similar but not quite" to a pot smoker

just want to add some more to my comment in my post earlier.
the name yoh means leaf. the kanji of yoh's name is the same with my chinnese family's name. in chinnese, it spelled ' ye'. and when i asked my mother what is the meaning, she said it means leaf.

Some of you people don't know that some of the "Marijuana" was used to make clothes.
