Thread: REEEAAALLY pointless question!

I want to know something stupid about Mikihisa. Why is his last name 'Asakura'? Keiko is the Asakura, isn't she? Is he related to the Asakura family through blood as well? If so, why are they married... But if he's not, why did he take HER last name??? That's unusual... ESPECIALLY for Japan. Does anyone have anything to say about this...?

Well, it is only traditional that the female takes the male's last name. It can be reversed if wanted. It was probably done in order to preserve the Asakura name.

(I always thought that he was born into the Asakura family. Can you tell me which chapter says he was married into it?)

I guess, but it just seems odd. It's chapter 143 page 2. It says he's the son-in-law.

There's some Japanese thing where the guy will take the last name of the girl...yeah, that's a really crappy explanation, but I can't remember what the tradition in question is called. It was referenced to in the Bleach section of the site.

I used to know this, too...being in Scotland, I can't use my handy Man-Ji-En to find names, but they're Tanuki and Kitsune, Fox and, uh, Tanuki (raccoon-dog. It's a real animal, too). Basically, they're the same things as Ponchi and Konchi, only not caricaturized.

The fox. I think.

A Tanuki is one of those animals that appears frequently in Japanese mythology. It's an actual animal; the most common translation of Tanuki is Raccoon-Dog, which is basically a big, fat raccoon (bigger and fatter than normal raccoons, anyways).

Kami-yami is a name, I believe.

Kami-yami is the name of what??? And that makes sense how he has a fox and a tanuki, cause he's the same type as Tamao. Thanks for clearing that much up. ^^

Of course Tamao has the same spirits as him, she's his disciple after all...
Tamao's spirits are not the best examples... Tanookis should be simple and goodhearted and Kitsunes are mostly evil, decieving and smart... can't see paralel between this and Konchi and Ponchi...
