Does it only copy the appearance or does it also copy abilities? And if it copies abilities, to what extent?

The oversoul can copy the appearance but the ability would depend on the shaman. For example since yoh knows the "shinku buttagiri" attack by muscle memory, if miki's spirits take the form of the spirit of sword they would still be able to do the attack. In short the answer is no, they cant copy abilities.

Not at all my good friend, the muscle memory doesnt apply to everybody and their techniques. Like horo horo couldnt use kororo's (his spirit) abilities through muscle memory because she sucks the moisture out of the air to freeze. Thats not a movement that muscles can memorize. For example im pretty sure tao ren has basons chuuka zanmai attack muscle memorized because its the attaack hes the most familiar with but moreso because its a physical attack rather than an ability.

When yoh's fighting horo horo they say something about it and when yohs fighting faust in the graveyard they say something about it.
