Masaru is a female. In the anime episode in the second season where Nakamura participated in the battle royale, there was an omake at the end of the ep about how Nakamura shot a little girl's parents during a war and took care of the girl till she grew up. When Itoko asked him who the girl was, Masaru walked in and everyone fell on the ground.
