Semester? Term?

Ok, now the second series of School Rumble is called senond term. And there have been many times when characters have been saying "3rd term is starting", but while in Kyoto Harima said that there is only a month left of thier second year. And Eri also said that the year is almost over for them and that they'll be 3rd year soon.

So i'm just wondering whether each season of school rumble is a Term or a Semester?

P.S. I'm in Australia where we have 4 terms in a year and 2 of these terms make a semester, so there ar 2 semesters(saying this just in case it's different there)
