maybe not impotent.. maybe he is gay (you know, Tenma is also a guys name, and she doesn't have all that famine characteristics...)
Tenma - can be a guy name - Dr. Tenma (manga : Monster)
Eri - if she is half english, her name could have connection to england, but what name "Eri" has a connection with ?? With "Eric" ?? (when I say Eric, I have that imagine picture of "Eric Forester" - the person who knows about who i'm talking about have the same brain damage as me )
Akira - can be a guy name - Akira Toriyama - author of Dragonball series
Yakumo - can be a guy name - Yakumo from "3x3 eyes (Sazan)"
Does Japanese people name girls and guys the same ?? Strange..
Thats not unique - in Russia ther is the same with a lot of names. I don't think KJ meant something special naming characters with "both-gender" names.
P.S. Eri - Eros.....just kidding
Not that he meant something special by that, but I just find that almost every name in Japan can be used for both guy and girl... even Ryouga ?? And I sometimes got confused
mostly, name of girls comes out from names of guys, but they aren't spelled and verbally said in the same manner. But in the japan, the only way to recognize the girl name is:
- if she has -ko added at the end (mostly at books, so we know what gender is the author)
- if someone says about that per mostly with -chan, guys don't use -chan often to talk about themselves (well, it happens in "Get Backers" or siblings can call themselv like that, but mostly you call -chan a girl)
- you can say this is a girl by trying to feel her boobs ... most of the ecchi-manga character try that one and in consequentness get their ass kicked by that girl .. that wasn't a serious one
Harima - man in love - a true magnet for girls who seek guy who understand word 'love'.
The last one have the 100% successful for sure....
Well, most of the go for Imadori anyways....
I blame Ranma for this. They keep using "kun" and "chan" to differentiate girls and boys and ended up giving people the wrong idea about them. >_<

sometimes people learn more in losing than winning.
Maybe Harima should go with Poligamy. ^^ Kiddie meal faction
About -kun; -chan stuff:
-kun isn't only for guy & -chan only for girl. I think is depend on their names pronounce (sorry if it's wrong).
Ex: Hanai call Yakumo ''Yakumo-kun!''. ''Yakumo-chan'' sound doesn't go very well.
Tenma call Eri + Akira ''Eri-chan'' & ''Akira chan''. ''Eri-kun'' + ''Akira-kun'' sound doesn't go very well too. (can't find any example for guy yet).
Maybe Japanese peoples name their daughter & son (by some unknown reason) so we can usually use -chan for girl and -kun for boy.
just an add on:

And he can't use -chan coz they are not in that kind of relationship yet (never) and he is too much of a getntalman to be just rude and name her -chan without an official reason
