It's like that. At the begining they said that "Boss is Eri fiance", everyone thought that the box is Max (because he looked like one) but after the fight with Harima,the others english guys explained (the small one and the big one, forgot their names) that Max is working for "Boss", so of course, Max can't be a boss and he isn't Eri fiance (whats more, they said they are poor and unfitting for this rich world, they are only thugs). At the end of this chapter, we see English guys talking about japanease girls and how Max failed them, the only one who appears at the last page is... Shawn. I'm sure it's Shawn who is the "Boss" (because who else ??) and he is actual Eri fiance. Probably, he doesn't care about Eri at all, he looks like a type of guy who would marry someone just for money, which Eri's familly has a lot.
