Just a some of thoughts on this rivalry thing.

First, I agree with Katana Soul that a rivalry needs to be historically established. Just one meeting of two players cannot be seen as immediate rivalry, however, rivalry has got to start somewhere, right? So this echizen/sanada rivalry (I respect your opinion, Fayte), for me does not exist yet, nor is it hidden (a "concealed rivalry") but as Kitsune said, it could happen, considering how passionate these two characters are. So, with these two, if Konomi allows, several more matches, you get history, then rivalry is solidified. (I just hope Sanada wins most of the matches, HAHAHA!)

Second, I think rivalry could also be viewed as one-way. With Urameshi's point (which i respect too) of Tezuka-Echizen, I think it's more of Echizen seeing Tezuka as a rival. For me, Tezuka is just there to further improve his potential and guide him like the good sempai and buchou that he is. But knowing how Echizen is so good at provoking people, maybe he can nudge TEzuka to return back the rival perception ; ) (And Tezuka WINS!!! mwahahaha!)

Finally, I think Echizen is the character that sees every worthy opponent as a rival. He'd probably be the spark(?) that could start rivalries in the PoT world.

Alright this topic got way off course. No more rivalry, more endings.

Haha. Most topics are way off course. I have to say, this one was pretty quick, though. 3 pages and it's already way off course. For the ending of PoT, it would probably after Nationals. If it goes any further, it can no longer be called tennis and must change its name. Then Maggeh and gigantor will take it over under its new name.

Ok one last note on rivalries. I can acknowledge I am probably wrong on the Tezuka/Echizen rivalry. Our ideas of rivalry is a bit different it seems. But I still don't see the likelihood of a Sanada/Echizen rivalry either. I still think if Sanada wins, Echizen will be more motivated to win for the schools (even avenging Tezuka would be a school loyalty, team member loyalty thing).

Thats it. And yeah, this was a rather quick aside.

I think unless Konomi got struck with incredible creativity, the ending of Pot will most likely be:

    1. Seigaku wins the Nationals.
    2. Ryoma settles the score with Nanjiro and wins.
    3. An epilogue, maybe ranging as soon as the Seigaku's senior's graduation to early training days of the new team (or maybe even preps for the next prefectural-Kanto tourney of the new team). The other schools may also get some page-time on their "what's-next-for-[insert team here]-after-Nationals" moments.

However, there might be a remote possibility (if Konomi pulls out a surprise) that Rikkai will win (agree with amxed [<-- iirc] ). In a way, some of the main protagonists & anatagonists' goals were achieved: Troika and the rest keep their title, Tezuka did lead his team to the Nationals but not necessarily win it...maybe that will be Echizen's job eventually as the new pillar.

Also, the captainship turnover might be shown. Kirihara is most likely the obvious candidate for Rikkai. As for Seigaku, maybe Echizen but hopefully, it would either be Momo or Kaido (that's just me...^^; )

If Seigaku loses the match it would really suck. Even if they left that job to the next generation, the next generation Seigaku looks more screwed than before. This final is their best bet for victory.

Tezuka's risked too much for this to end nicely. I don't see why he would take that risk but I have a terrible feeling.

Tezuka will try his hardest and lose. This will spark an emotional scene with Seigaku and they will all try to "Be like Tezuka". This is how it will be.

;_; Poor Tezuka. If Tezuka *sobs* loses, I hope Seigaku ends up winning the whole thing.
