Thread: Mangaka Errors

Well, recently I've decided to re-read some of the earlier chapters of PoT, just because, you know? And well, I noticed something a little odd.

We all know about the Cool Drive/C-Drive, right? It's an awesome move where the ball doesn't bounce... And everyone remembers how shocked everyone in the manga was, right? They were all "OMFG the ball didn't bounce!" I mean it's an awesome move and everything but...

... As I was re-reading the earlier chapters... I stumbled across chapter 27, in which Fuji does a move called "Swallow Return" ... And who can guess what it does? It's return where the ball doesn't bounce.

But anyway, why would everyone make such a big fuss over the non-bouncing ball other people have done it before, too? It's not like it was a new thing. The Cool Drive is probably special in the fact that it's basically impossible to return, even if you get it before it reaches the ground, but no one knew that until later... So why was everyone so amazed when Echizen was going against the Emperor?

Then again, Echizen's little first-years cheering crew are always so amazed when he does his twist serve -___-;

Can anyone else think of errors like that? (Aside from chapter 235's six-fignered goodness and magically teleporting referee chair)

well isn't cool drive a smash? and c-drive is the cool drive but with half the power. and... tsubame gaeshi (swallow return) is just a way to return utilizing your opponents topspin... uh... i think its a slice.

Uh... If we're talking about errors, there's this other thread about Tachibana that talks about an error. It could have been a translation error, or it could have been a mangaka error. My guess was translation, but I'm not sure. It was something along the lines of the translators/mangaka talking about the wrong eye.

Well back to the Cool Drive thing. It supposed to be different from Swallow's Return since you can't return it at all. Like with Tanishi from I think Higa Chu? Tanishi got to the ball but it still spun off the racket.

I guess a mangaka error could be the whole data tennis thing. I mean its not really THAT impressive, but every time Inui plays, everybody's like ZOMG!! Data Tennis!

Lol. They have to make Inui look like he can do something. That's like Oishi's Moon Volley. That's even LESS impressive, and everyone goes, "ZOMG! MOON VOLLEY!"

I bet they're impressed that Oishi is actually doing something - whenever he plays in the manga, it's a shock and surprise. ^_~

Lol! Yeah. That's gotta be it. I think it's funny how his opponents just sit there and watch the ball hit the line, too.That's even more amazing.

lol awww lets be nice to oishi. at least he has moon volley, no matter how lame it might be XP if he didn't have anything at all it'd be just weird 0.0

Well Oiishi isn't cool and has no cool moves, so the moon volley always has to work to compensate for the lameness of Oiishi's character.

Awww, poor Ooishi - now we're making it sound like his creation was a manga-ka error. ^^;; I think that honour belongs to Kawamura, who I forget exists most of the time, but anyway...
