im wondering y ryoma did not use cool drive against atobe??

Maybe because he thought it would not work with Atobe.

Is the cool drive the same as cyclone smash? I think before they used the term cool drive in the manga and cyclone smash in the anime but then in OVA nationals 2, they said that cool drive is a new move that Echizen picked up during his US stint.

The prototype cyclone smash was demostrated to Atobe during Seigaku's training somewhere in the mountains.

The anime is a fake. Cyclone smash is bs.

Because he never did...don't think cyclone smash actually exist in the manga...

Actually that "Cyclone Smash" should have never existed, now in the ovas there's a conflict in the story because of it, Echizen plays Oishi instead of Oishi playing Tezuka. An now Ryoma uses Cool Drive only, he hasn't used that smash since the LAME LAME match between him and Sanada... (lame in the anime)... Also, they started explaining SoSA now, because they needed to introduce Hyakuren Jitoku. Why didn't they introduce it when they should have? Beats me.

Thanks for the clarifications. I was confused because I read somewhere (dunno if from wikipedia) that they were the same because at that time the anime has not used the term cool drive yet. Somebody should remind the mangakas/animators about those things (lol!)

Yes, you're right. Actually there are no unreturnable shots in PoT.

Cool Drive is unreturnable.

The problem is that there are strong conditions while using Cool Drive and it's more a finisher than a 'normal' special shot.
