Thread: Who else thinks Ryoma's got no personality?

I mean, he hardly ever talks, when he does it's just to show off. he's constantly sleeping somewhere or playing tennis. I don't think he has any other hobbies. I mean, he goes home, plays matches with his dad eats dinner, maybe plays with his cat and sleeps. That's his day

I hardly ever see him show emotion. I've never seen him sad, laugh, embarrassed. Even when he's angry he doesn't show it, his eyes just change. I swear, he's had three expressions on his face the entire series:

The arrogant smile, the angry look, and that sleepy look he has. My god, outside of that, for a main character, his personality's incredibly dull.

His only redeeming quality is that he plays good tennis and he's not planning to be a professional What the hell does that mean. If he stops playing tennis, he'll have no personality at ALL

that is his personality. And you should know that he does have emotions but just hides it. thats his personality. I mean only the actual characters are supposed to think he his no personality. But its cleary expressed to us that he does have one.

Remember that he only started playing tennis because his dad wanted to teach him. (Awww, Nanjiroh and teensy-weensy practically-newborn Ryoma...)

So if what you said means that Ryoma has no personality, can I say then that my beloved Rukawa Kaede has no personality, either? Because they're pretty much exactly the same, except that Rukawa has dreams of playing in the NBA. But anyone can argue that Rukawa DOES have personality.

Ryoma was made to be really cocky and a snarky little bastard, and we love him for it. (Konomi-sensei apparently does.)

And he DOES have a smile other than the arrogant one. Like when he first tried on the Seigaku jacket infront of Sakuno. And his smile in the Birthday PV.

I think in the beginning of the series is easy to think Ryoma is just a cocky little bastard...but it becomes very apparent that he has a lot of personality as it goes on. I don't see how anyone could miss that...

From what you've said about Echizen having no personality then apparently Tezuka and Sanada doesn't even exist. If you haven't noticed they're even more emotionless then Echizen. Though I think the cocky little brat has a huge personality problem, though maybe not as big as Atobe-sama -_-;;

Echizen has a personality of a snarky brat. Like a mini Atobe combined with a mini Nanjiroh-->_<;;

He's a stuck up gloating brat(sp?) combined with an arrogant pervert. Though he hasn't shown any of his father's pervertness yet I think he'll grow into it...(creepy). Those two combined and BOOM we have Echizen Ryoma in the flesh XD

Oh... I was watching some of the earlier episodes a while ago, and I remembered this thread...

How could someone without personality love his pet so much to almost break down like that when he thought he'd lost Karupin?

it's not that he doesn't have a personality... its just that his personality Is as his tennis... shaped by his father. I think it's pathetic, not having anything to call your own. I think that he is very much like his father at everything, at the verge of sickess. Ryoma...Get a life...

exactly what I'm talking about. Without tennis, where would ryoma be? You just can't imagine Ryoma's existence without tennis, it's not a part of his life, but it is his life.

And he's not planning to become a profeesional. He's gonna be an empty shell

Exactly!...I think that if Ryoma wouldn't play tennis he would be a cold loser who would spend his adult life as a low paid english teacher... with no dreams, no wife and no hobbies...except for having 138 cats or something--

Don't be too harsh on the poor kid! Obviously the environment he grew up in shaped what he has become. I think he has kept his emotions under control except when in the tennis court where he constantly goads his opponents. But I do agree that he needs a life outside tennis. What would happen after he succeeds in beating his dad?
