    The cutting tools are coated with diamond shards so they're able to cut diamond. The problem with this is that the tools get worn out very easily and need to be replaced often.

    Thus, we use lasers a lot more often to cut diamond. (we use lasers to cut hard metals like steel and titanium too.)

    afaik diamonds are cut with other diamonds, i think they use power tools but the cutting thing has diamond dust/pieces on it, that's why diamond cutters are so expensive.
