zoan was the only class of fruit that was really mentioned. I'm re-reading the series and am almost done the alabasta arc (Luffy is fighting croc now). I also remember most of the latest ones too. Definitions are the real problem.

And about the whole eating two fruits thing. maybe its a "legend" like in the beginning of OP in the smaller towns everybody thought that the devil fruits were a "legend". So as we enter and go deeper into grandline the "legend" changes so that its not just the existence of the devil fruit but what they can actually do.

Like other people have said. He has gained rubber like qualities he isn't actually turning into rubber.

I really don't see any reason why Luffy can hit Enel. Okay, so he's rubber, so he does not conduct electricity, but what has that got to do with Enel not being able to change to electricity when hit by rubber? It's just the same as a blunt attack isn't it? Or is it because rubber has a nullifying effect on Enel's power like water nullifies Crocodile's power? If that is the case, then Luffy is definitely made of rubber. I think they sometimes mention that Luffy is made of rubber, not he only has properties of rubber, I'm not too sure of this though.

I think people are taking the definition of Logia too scientifically. It's a manga that's set on a strange world different from ours. I doubt that every law of physics applies there the way it applies to us. The closest description you can give a Logia user is someone who can turn into an unsolid substance(liquid, gas) or at the least unconcrete(like sand and ice). If you look at it like magic, it's the kind of attacks an element conjurer will use(like fire, wind, water, ice, earth, etc.). Ever seen an element conjurer cast a "Rubber Blast"?

Enel didn't change into electricity when attacked he simply discharged around the attack. If something is insulatory enough he wouldn't be able to discharge and so would be forced by momentum to follow the path of the punch. So that would make him get hit.

And I would like to see an element conjurer cast a "Rubber Blast!" that'd be pretty sweet.

Whether that's the case or not, it doesn't answer my question at all. It actually makes things more complicated for me. For the sake of getting an answer let's all try to stay on topic here. Paramecia vs. Logia that is.

Which would DEFINITELY brand him as Paramecia. But like aallx mentioned, as far as my memory goes, they actually say that he is a Rubber man and they go as far as to say that he is made of rubber. Again, my memory could easily be wrong about this.

And finally, on what aallx said, yes an elementalist would be the kind of thing we're talking about in the sense of what elements are included in the Logia fruits, but like it was mentioned before when we were talking about the Classical Greek elements, it's not just the basic 4 that we're looking at. Sand and Cloud are classified as logia, when in fact neither fit into either of our descriptions. That's the only thing that leaves any room in my mind for the Rubber based abilities of the Gomu Gomu Fruit to be approaching a Logia fruit in power.

Your contradicting yourself. Changing into electricity and simply discharging around is the same thing. It's like saying that Ace doesn't change into fire, he just blazes around it.

As far as the smoke is concerned, the closest thing you can say is that, as what I have said, it is insubstantial(non-solid), and therefore classified as Logia. About the sand, it maybe categorized as an earth element, and, at the same time, sand is also somewhat insubstantial(every bit maybe solid, but as far as the whole is concerned, it really isn't that solid).

Rubber does not disperse like smoke, or sand, or fire, or whatever disperses, and so it does not fall in the category of a Logia user. After all, the reason that the Logia is the strongest class is that they are near invincible, because they disperse, they cannot be harmed unless subjected to seastone, the sea, or whatever their weakness is.

So are moving towards a system where it's almost like a Zoan fruit's type and model (Dog fruit, Model Jackal) but in our case it'd be Logia Fruit (Wind based, Model Cloud)? Or is it more about having a substance that is insubstantial and allows for something akin to liquification. Rubber can only do that in it's raw form, before it is dried and then later vulcanized.

Again I'm not trying to prove that Luffy's fruit is a Logia fruit, I'm just trying to say that it approaches a Logia fruit in power and in its characteristics. Basically put, its somewhere in between. Though everything would change if he was just a human with rubber properties, as opposed to a being made of rubber.

I do think that it isn't about property or substance. A logia is a logia simply because they can disperse. After all, Mr. 3's power is liquid in nature, and yet he cannot disperse into wax, and therefore he is classified as paramecia. Mr. 1 changes into steel, so he does change property(note the metallic color in the anime), and yet he cannot disperse, thus he is paramecia.

By the way, this are all just my observations. It is up to anyone to believe them, though I find them myself to be convincing and believable.

I doubt they would go as far as melt Luffy ^_^ . Very much unlikely.

Regarding Mr. 1 I think the substance of his body was permently changed as well. During the fight with Zoro he wasn't able to cut him at all even when hit directly in the face. Zoro wasn't able to cut him untill the whole steel cutting thing.
