are we getting off topic already?

anyway, to answer people's zoro/shark thing, it was mentioned in Grand Data File Blue. it listed the animal the mugiwara member was most like.

    Sanji-duck
    Luffy-monkey (duh)
    Nami-cat
    Usopp-armadillo
    Zoro-(tiger?)shark

    hope that explains that.

and about usopp. I think he's just a medley of inspirations. "uso" means to lie. Isoppu is the Japanese translation of Aesop, the great fable teller, so that could be a portmanteau. His nose could come from either the play OR Pinocchio, as both make good comparisons.See it as you will, I just want to try to keep this on topic

Or maybe Oda's just a Steve Martin fan?

    Basis of Characters:

Portgas D. Ace: Indiana JOnes+ Luffy (the creator probably got lazy and reused luffy's character but added a bit of Indiana JOnes to it)

Roronorah Zorro: L'ollonois (famous pirate) + Zorro (masked guy)

Sanji: Probably some contestant on the iron chef...

Luffy: Mr. Fantastic with the brains of the hulk: HULK SMASH, AAARGH

    Mysterious, no?

hahahah...although L'ollonois is ALSO named Zorro, but the reference to the "California-Mexican Robin Hood" is rather awesome.
.....isn't Sanji's name based on his birthday? It's on March 2. Ji means second, right?

To me, Usopp looks more like a comical and bragging character of the Comedia del Arte, with his grotesque face and his new mask...
